Message From The Principal's Desk
Dear Titan Families,
With the conclusion of this week, we are down to five weeks of school remaining. While I am very proud of the work and perseverance that students have shown and will continue to show, I believe many of us will be ready for this year to come to a close. My matra with students this week has been "finish strong", and as parents I would encourage you to do the same on behalf of your students. Continue to check their progress in Schoology, ask about classes, and make sure that your child is paying attention to deadlines. Teachers are still available each day during student support time and Titan Tutoring is still in place (link below). In this most challenging of years, let's all finish strong, Titans!
With the Governor's announcement of the relaxation of COVID restrictions this week, invariably there is discussion regarding adjustments to our graduation ceremony on June 4. Any decision related to number of tickets provided, parking and seating distancing will be made by our central office leaders, in concert with the Board of Education and the Frederick County Department of Health. I am confident that, whatever guidelines are in place, we are going to have a meaningful ceremony on June 4th that families will celebrate with their graduates. Senior families that were present at our evening Senior Parent Meeting this week heard me stress that we will all need to work together to be patient to make this event happen successfully. But I know the Tuscarora Community - you will pull together and help each other make this a great day.
Speaking of Senior Stuff, tomorrow is the deadline for participation in several important Senior celebrations - picture submissions for the video, bios and more. These deadlines cannot be extended due to the time needed to produce these presentations. Please see below in the senior section for more details, Class of 2021.
As the world begins to reopen, live performances are beginning to return. Last night and next week there are several outdoor performances at the Baker Park Bandshell of the THS Performing Arts Program. It is SO GOOD to think about the possibility of seeing our students on stage again. Check out the flier below in the News Section.
With Titan Pride,
Christopher Berry
Principal

Congratulations, Commendations & Kudos
Fort Detrick Spring Research Festival
Congratulations to Taeeun Kim. She was named the overall High School Poster Winner as well as winning 2nd Place in the Poster Blitz in the Fort Detrick Spring Research Festival. There were 22 Poster Blitz presenters, 20 of those were PI’s, staff scientists, postdocs and postbacs from the NCI, USAMRIID, MRDC, NLMC and the USDA and her presentation was judged using the same criteria as theirs. There was not a separate category for high school presentations. That is a HUGE accomplishment and an indicator of great things to come for future scientific achievements and contributions.
Start Up Frederick
Wednesday night, Frederick county held its 6th annual Start Up Frederick competition, a shark tank like competition where students pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges. Jasmine Osborne, the representative from THS, earned First Place in the competition with her business Muser!
Career and Technology Center Student of the Month
Congratulations to Diego Ramirez Fernandez. He was selected as the Student of the Month for the Career and Technology Center. Diego was nominated by his Carpentry Instructor, James Thuman, and selected on his merit out of a field of other nominees by the Student Achievement Committee.
April Staff Members of the Month
Congratulations to Ms. Honaker and Ms. West. They were voted April Staff Members of the Month.
From Ms. Honaker: "When I accepted this job a two years ago, I never imagined loving my job as much as I do. Although the students chose me to be 'Staff Member of the Month', I feel they are the ones that deserve the recognition! These kids have accepted me into their lives and have allowed me to work through some really difficult things that otherwise may not have been addressed without this position at the school. I truly have found where I belong in my career and I could not be more excited for the future with our THS students"
Titan Students of the Week
Each week, Tuscarora High School will honor two students of the week, chosen from the many student who were nominated by their teachers. One will recognize strong Titan character and work ethic, and the other will recognize strong scholarship. Here are this week's winners:
Congratulations to our outstanding Students of the Week! (5/3-5/7)
Outstanding Scholar of the Week: Kamryn Herron, nominated by Ms. Stevens: "Kamryn has gone above and beyond to help prepare for the Horticulture Plant Sale. Before the plant sale, he worked very hard both inside the greenhouse and outside with the raised beds. During the plant sale, he assisted customers with their purchases and helped carry the plants to their car."
Outstanding Character of the Week: Elvin Martinez-Garcia, nominated by Ms. Banzhoff: "Elvin is such a bright personality! Every time he joins the FLEX Meet, he starts by saying "Good Morning" to everyone, which is always something to look forward to. He is active in keeping the conversations going and never fails to make us laugh and smile, whether it's with a funny response, his cheerful & competitive nature when it comes to Good News Kahoots, or just his fun persona."
Honorable Mention to All Nominees for Student of the Week:
