Message From The Principal's Desk
Dear Tuscarora Families,
Report cards will be going out next week for Term 3. Often times, when a student doesn't earn the grade they were hoping for in Term 3, they assume that that is their final grade, and this is what will appear on the transcript. The truth is something entirely different, in fact, as the final grade that appears on the transcript is an average of the 3rd and 4th Term grades. And further, the final grade "follows the trend, so that if a student earns a "C" 3rd Term and a "B" 4th Term, the Final Grade is a "B". All this to say that the effort that students put into their 4th Term coursework can make a tremendous difference in what actually appears on the student's permanent transcript.
A student in this exact circumstance told me this week that she does fine while in class, but then struggles with assignments outside of class. When I reminder her that her teacher was available to her five days a week online from 1:30 to 2:30 each day, she admitted that she really didn't take advantage of this tremendous resource - her own teacher, available every day for one-on-one tutoring. I also reminder her that if this time didn't work, that Titan Tutors were available every day in seven subject areas from 3:00 until 7:00pm most nights. This student hadn't even heard of Titan Tutoring. I suggested that some of THS' best teachers participated in this program, and that you don't have to have this teacher in class to benefit from their help. The student nodded their head.
All this to say, that next higher grade it there waiting for you, Titans and Titan families. There is individual help, someone on the other end of a Google Meet every single school day who wants to get you to that next level. Details and links to Titan Tutoring are below. There is really is no honest way you can say, "I didn't understand" or "I couldn't get help." Reach for the next level, Titans! Make this teacher assistance part of your routine.
With Titan Pride,
Christopher Berry, Principal

Titan Athletics
Fall athletics are over (We Made It!) and everyone from student-athletes to coaches to spectators at Tuscarora played a HUGE part by following COVID protocols and allowing our Titans to have a successful season. I thank each of you for your dedication, your flexibility, and your quick attention to FCPS rules and regulations, as those rules often changed right before us.
A reminder and final congratulations to EACH of our fall teams, especially our new THS career kills leader, Julia Slivka, helping the volleyball team end 9-1.
And to our FCPS Girls Soccer Champions, who also finished the season 9-1.
