News from the Principal's Desk
Dear Tuscarora Families,
Next week begins the 2nd Term of the 2020-21 school year. Just as we encourage our students to "erase the board" and begin again, we are also looking at our commitment to students. Beginning on Tuesday, November 10, FCPS has made some adjustments to the high school schedule to allow for greater synchronous, live instruction with our students. Teachers will provide instruction during the entire 80 minute live block each day, allowing for more interaction with students and more time for a deeper dive into instructional topics. In addition, while many of our teachers have already been available at specified times during the Student Support (Green) Time from 12:30-1:45 each day, teachers will now be available during the entirety of this time, whether a student has made an appointment or not. I would encourage you to check out the revised HS schedule here. I'll be back on Monday with a special Find Out First with more thoughts about Term 2.
We had a nice response for our 9th Grade Counselor Conferences happening from now until mid-December. If you did not have the opportunity to arrange your individual conference as the parent of a new high schooler, please see the links below. We promise it will be time well spent, focused on your individual student's needs.
Tomorrow will be a great day for the entire Titan community. We have had over 200 people register to participate in the Titan Virtual 5k. While many participants will run the 5k on their own, our track will be open and monitored from 8am-12pm for anyone who would like to run the 5k and pick up their t-shirt. In addition, The Titan SGA and Local love will have a canned food drive for our community from 12-4pm on the Main Office/Greenhouse side of the school. Please help us fill the pantries of those in our community as the weather turns cold. Finally, congratulations to the SGA for a successful drive-through toiletries drive this afternoon, netting cases of items for students in our area. Titans continue to work to take care of our own.
Have a wonderful crisp fall weekend, Titans!

A Message for Senior Parents
The Remember the Titans yearbook would like to invite you to recognize your graduating senior in our senior recognition section of this year’s book.
We have reduced ad pricing this year in an effort to make our ad space more affordable. We are also hoping that the reduced price-points will encourage your participation. And, being perfectly honest here folks, we have a lot of extra space in the book this year. With so many things being cancelled we have a unique opportunity to expand our ads section.
This is a senior year unlike any other that has come before. Our Titan Seniors deserve, now more than ever, to be recognized for their commitment, their perseverance, their resilience, and their grit. So please consider purchasing some space in our book to recognize your graduate. You can purchase and then create your own ad using our yearbook ordering center:
If you have any questions, please contact: Richard.hartman@fcps.org
Titan Assistance with Technology and Schoology
Virtual Learning can be a challenge, especially when technology or a Schoology question slows you down, or brings you to a stop. The solution for nearly every single Google issue in Schoology was found in the FCPS Troubleshooting Guide. For fast answers to your questions before calling the school or asking for assistance, this is a user-friendly guide. Please go to the link below, and bookmark it, or add the link to your toolbar.

Student Attendance Notes
If your child will be unable to attend Virtual School due to illness, doctor's appointments, or for any other reason, please communicate with THS via email:
THS.Attendance@fcps.org
Please include your child's name, grade, reason for absence and a phone number where the parent can be reached. Paper communication is ALSO acceptable if email is not an option. Call 240-236-6400 with any questions.
"See Something, Say Something" and "Don't repost it. Report it"
Encourage students to report security concerns to a trusted adult (parent, school staff member, school administrator, SRO, or a local law enforcement agency). Students may also anonymously report concerns using the Safe Schools Maryland Tip Line at 833-MD-B-SAFE or https://www.safeschoolsmd.org/. In an emergency, call 911. Additional resources can be found on each school's website and the FCPS website.
Security Reminder
It is unlawful for students to possess or use any weapon on school property. Students who have or use a weapon on school property will be suspended from school, and the police will be notified of the incident. A weapon is any object designed to harm another physically or an object which is used in a way that can physically harm another. This school is committed to providing each of you with a safe environment, and we will do all we can to carry out that responsibility including, if necessary, conducting searches of student lockers.
Congratulations, Commendations and Kudos
Titan Students of the Week
Each week, Tuscarora High School will honor two students of the week, chosen from the many student who were nominated by their teachers. One will recognize strong Titan character and work ethic, and the other will recognize strong scholarship. Here are this week's winners:
Titan Character of the Week: Christian Fike, 10th Grade
Nominated by: Ms. Schickton and Ms. Weber two weeks in a row
Comment: (Week 8, Weber) "Christian has been consistently making progress with work completion--requiring fewer prompts and producing excellent work. He was recognized by his science teacher for exceptional work on a particular project. He has been consistently producing quality work in his ELA class (and in a timely manner). He prefers to be in the school building but is making a success of virtual learning regardless of the circumstances."
(Week 9, Weber) "Christian continues to mature and make strides in his academic classes particularly in Science and in English. He is a good participant and he has begun to show leadership by volunteering to lead a small study group in our science break-out work sessions. So proud of him!"
(Week 9, Schickton) "Chris consistently participates in class and turns in his assignments. His responses on assignments typically go above and beyond minimum expectations."
Titan Scholar of the Week: Onege "Nini" Asam Eyong, 12th Grade
Nominated by: Mr. Ratti
Comment: (Week 7) "Nini continues to be a leader for the building, engaging in her classes, working hard, and continuing to look forward to the basketball season."
(Week 9) "Nini and I have been working on her college application essays, and her writing quality is very high and her determination to be accepted into her first choice college is motivating. She is an incredibly hard worker, and she is a model of how to focus and work through adversity."
Here is a list of all the nominees. If you have these students please take a moment to congratulate them!

Counseling Office Updates
THS Parents - Important Grade Level Schoology Groups are Here!
The THS Counseling department has set up an information hub/group in Schoology for each grade level. It is titled "THS Counseling - Class of 2022, Class of 2023, Class of 2024" respectively. Information and resources particular and helpful to each grade level will be shared throughout the school year. Since students and parents are already using Schoology for courses and to check grades, we figured it would be best to keep all THS information in one location instead of getting notifications from multiple sources. Students have already been added as members to their specific class group. Parents, if you would like to join the group for your student or students, please follow these directions and use the access code provided:
1. Click "Groups" at the top of Schoology 2. Select "My Groups" 3. Click "Join Group" on the right 4. Enter the Group Access Code
Access Codes: Class of 2021 VC9G-B59K-F4N3T
Class of 2022 C4MK-FFF3-9V3FH Class of 2023 765H-5WC3-5M9SC Class of 2024 M63X-9RRZ-D9VQX

Athletic Boosters - Our Titans Need your Help and Support!
FCPS Athletics is a MD State Leader! We are one of the ONLY local counties to have any sort of athletics occurring right now! The student athletes are having a blast, seeing their teammates, connecting with their coaches and staying safe! However, there are no competitions, and therefore, no athletic budget (which comes solely from gate receipts). The state is now looking at the possibilities of incorporating three shortened seasons in the spring, and there is a lot of work to be done to prepare and plan for such a non-traditional plan for interscholastic athletics. Please consider joining us to be a part of the solution. Our teams, our coaches, and most importantly, your students NEED our support and positivity now and this upcoming year. The loss of a traditional fall and winter ticket gate means the serious loss of all athletic funding. Come help us determine how we can/will be able to support ALL athletic teams moving forward.
BE A PART OF THE 2020-21 THS ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB!
As we prepare for whatever HS Athletics will look like during the upcoming year, the THS Athletic Boosters wants your input, welcomes your ideas, and needs your support. With the uncertainty of the upcoming year and the current financial conditions, this is the best possible way to help support the student athletes at Tuscarora. Each and every program is going to need our help navigating this year.
