News from the Principal's Desk
Dear Tuscarora Families,
We are down to the final few days of this year for all students, with some wonderful activities coming up next week. On Wednesday, we will release the Senior Awards Program on YouTube, including departmental award winners, scholarship winners and more. This will be followed on Thursday with our virtual graduation ceremony, honoring all members of the Class of 2020. Details of that ceremony are below, especially the many places that you can view it. And there will be a final very special surprise gift for all Class of 2020 Graduates by the middle of next week. Stay tuned for that!
There are also the basic details below about the distribution of diplomas and materials for Graduates and the collection of school resources from underclass students, both the Week of June 15. Separate Find Out First emails will follow, but it is critical that all school materials be returned by underclass students and families on June 16 and 17. More details will follow next week. And as just confirmed via Find Out First, one very positive development in this area - FCPS has said that underclass students may keep their Chromebooks over the summer, and do not need to return them right now. Stay tuned.
With Titan Pride,
Christopher Berry
Principal

THS Class of 2020 Graduation Schedule
FCPS is providing multiple opportunities for families and the community to view this year's THS virtual graduation ceremony. The school system will share the ceremony via FCPS social media platforms and over FCPS TV, as well as from a link on the THS high school webpage. FCPS is also purchasing USB drives with each school's ceremony to issue to graduates as a keepsake.
The schedule for broadcasts of the THS graduation video on FCPS TV via Comcast channel 18 and at www.fcps.org/tv is on Thursday, June 11 and 18: 10 AM: Saturday, June 13 and Monday, June 15, 4:30-6 PM. The public may also stream ceremonies via FCPSMaryland YouTube, @FCPSMaryland Twitter and FCPS Maryland Facebook sites. The Frederick County Government's high-definition Channel 19 will broadcast the THS graduation videos with closed captioning on Saturday, June 13 and Monday, June 15 at 4:30-6 p.m.
The Weinberg Center marquee will display "Congratulations Class of 2020" and a different school name each day from June 8-19. The Weinberg will update the marquee by 10 AM daily and leave the name until 9 AM the following day so graduates can stop by for photos. Thursday, June 11th is the day for Tuscarora High School.
Senior Diploma, Report Card and Guidance Information Distribution - Monday, June 15
Monday, June 15th will be the day that we will have a no-contact distribution of final materials to seniors - individual diplomas, report cards, guidance materials, senior award certificates, etc. These materials will only be released to student who have fulfilled ALL school resource obligations, including Chromebooks, texts, media center materials, athletic uniforms and financial obligations. Pick-up will work similar to gown pick-up. Please have a sign in your car with your name on it.
If you sold enough Joe Corbis to receive a free prom ticket, you will receive a $40 check. If you sold enough to receive a 1/2 priced prom ticket, you will receive a $20 check. Anyone who chose the Amazon gift card as their prize will still receive it.
Underclass Student School Material Return Days - Tuesday and Wednesday, June 16 and 17
June 16 and 17 will be the dates reserved for students in Grades 9-11 to return all school resources - textbooks, calculators, media center materials, and pay financial obligations. There will be two time windows each day for returning these materials in a no contact, drive-up process: 9:00am - 12:00pm and 3:00 - 6:00pm. Individual teacher will remind students what materials they should bring to this return, and school assistants will have a list of all items that students owe. Important Reminder: students in Grades 9-11 will be permitted to keep their chromebooks over the summer. Chromebooks should NOT be returned on June 16 and 17. Additional details will be provided via Find Out First next week.
Seniors Pursuing Post-secondary Education
If you are a senior attending a technical school, 2 year college or 4 year college, you MUST indicate in Naviance which school you are attending. Failure to do this, will result in your final transcript not being sent to your attending college. Colleges require this final transcript for your attendance and the school year is coming to a close. Most School Counselors are 10-month employees, not working after June 17th.
Please go into your Naviance account, go to "Colleges I'm applying to," scroll to the bottom and you will see "College that I'm attending." From the drop-down menu, select the college you will be attending in the Fall.

The Online Yearbook is at Your Fingertips!
Want to see your 2020 Remember the Titans Yearbook? Well, the bad news is we still don’t have our physical copies due to the coronavirus. But, if you purchased a yearbook, we have great news for you: the 2020 Remember the Titans yearbook is now available as an app for your phone and/or tablet! Simply go to your app store and search: Plus One Digital Yearbook Herff Jones and download the app.
Instructions for logging in:
The app will allow you to download the online yearbook preview on up to five devices, so technically you could share the book with a friend who has yet to purchase a book! Until then, take a look at your 2020 Remember the Titans yearbook!
If you have questions or if the app is not working please contact Mr. Hartman at richard.hartman@fcps.org. Happy Yearbooking, Titans!

She is available to help teachers and students who have any issues using their devices as we adjust to learning from home over the next month or so. She will also assist students who are still in need of a Chromebook, Hot Spot or replacement equipment such as a charger. At this time all pick-up and drop-offs will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm at THS. Prior to pick-up or drop-off you will receive final confirmation from Mrs. Bush.
Parent Help with Schoology
Most of our teachers at Tuscarora are using Schoology as our primary means of delivering information and activities as well as checking on students progress during the next four weeks of distance learning. If you have not already, we encourage all parents to join Schoology and connect to their child's Schoology accounts.
Here is the PDF of the sign-up guide for parents:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Go7GoCc2iWUhtfQ45141LpVpbouxaclF/view
Here are five short Schoology training videos for parents made by FCPS:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DOSiPygdlg&list=PLukX28g2mPZhmDtZT4XrUz4pzLLHUAAXw
Your child's teachers are able to provide you with your student's unique Schoology access code. All students are already able to log in and use Schoology. This code will allow parents to connect to their student's accounts.
If you are having trouble or have questions regarding Schoology, please email Ms. Jorgensen at Judith.Jorgensen@fcps.org

The counselor will email a copy of your transcript to you, directly.

Safe and Sane Cancellation
It's with great regret that the THS Class of 2020 Safe and Sane All-Night Graduation Party will not take place this year. After nearly nine months of planning, each and every member of the parent planning committee was working hard to find a way to give our graduates a fantastic all-night celebration. The Planning Committee talked and discussed many different scenarios, but simply couldn't find a safe (within the social restrictions and precautionary guidelines) option to gather the students for this event.
However, we hope to be celebrating the THS Class of 2020 graduates at a later date. The parent party planning committee is still working out the details.
Our seniors have missed out on so many milestones this spring: prom, awards nights, spring performances and concerts, spring sports and activities, and much more. We certainly can't make up for them missing these special experiences, but we are hoping each graduate will know they have an entire community who wishes them the best for their future and wants to celebrate their THS achievements and graduation.
If you have registered your student for the Safe and Sane party, you will be contacted about receiving a refund. If you wish to donate your registration fees to the future event funds, you may indicate this when contacted.
Thank you for your support of the Class of 2020!!
