Freshman Meeting - A meeting will be held by the Catoctin High School guidance department for all freshman and their parents on Wednesday, December 12 at 6:00 pm. Counselors will be presenting information on graduation requirements, college and career readiness, CTC opportunities and much more.
FFA Fruit/Nut Pick Up - Fruit orders from the FFA Citrus Sale will arrive at Catoctin High School on Wednesday, December 12th. Pick up will be 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the Ag Area/Upper Parking Lot. FFA members are needed after school to help sort and prepare fruit and nuts for pick up. Please see Mrs. Poffenberger with any questions.
Santa's Workshop - The clubs and honor societies at Catoctin High will transform the cafeteria into Santa's Workshop for local families and children on Saturday, December 15 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Children will enjoy activities such as visiting with Santa, holiday storytelling, holiday carols, face painting, writing letters to Santa, make your own crafts, a holiday photo booth, refreshments and more. The workshop is free and open to all local families and children.
ASVAB - The ASVAB has been rescheduled and will now take place on December 19. Start time is 7:30 a.m. and it typically takes about 3 hours. Registered students will need to report directly to the auditorium no later than 7:25. Please mark students “absent” on your roster and we will adjust after attendance is taken in the auditorium. If students ask, they need to bring a #2 pencil. No phones, calculators or any other electronic devices are allowed.
Ugly Sweater Contest - Judges will be looking for the staff member and student who is wearing the most tacky sweater during the day on Thursday, December 20, 2018. There will be a 1st and 2nd place winner picked during each lunch shift for students and one staff member will be chosen.
The Unified Bocce team is joining the Student Homeless Initiative Partnership of Frederick County during the month of December. The team will be collecting full-sized hygiene items. Those items include all the basic items you used to prepare for school today. Items being collected include but are not limited to the following: toothbrushes and toothpaste, dental floss, body wash, 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner, brush and comb. Bins are available in the cafeteria and media center.
Coat Collection - SGA is collecting winter coats for the next month. Have you outgrown a jacket? No longer your style? Have an extra? Please bring your coats to Mrs. Herrmann’s room 306 or drop off in the box in the lobby.
After School Tutoring - After school tutoring is available for students every Monday through Thursday in the Media Center from 2:30-3:30 pm. No appointments necessary - just drop in!
Catoctin anniversary ornaments are on sale now! Ornaments are $10 each and proceeds benefit Catoctin's Unified Sports program. Get yours while supplies last! See a Unified Tennis player or Coach Charmane Nesbitt (charmane.nesbitt@fcps.org) to obtain one today.
Attending a School Outside Your Attendance Area - Dates for applying to attend a school outside the usual attendance area are January 2-March 1.* FCPS will post the out-of-district application online on January 2 in the section For Families and Students at www.fcps.org. Those needing assistance may call 240-236-2493 after January 2. Schools projected to be over capacity in the coming school year are closed to out-of-district students. FCPS will post the list of restricted schools online in December. For details, please see the updated Assignment and Transfer of Students Regulation 400-15: https://apps.fcps.org/legal/doc.php?number=400-15 (*In the prior version of the regulation in place last year, the application window was April 1-May 31. In 2019, FCPS will post applications January 2, due by March 1.)

Free SAT Practice Test for Sophomores and Juniors - Sylvan Learning Center will provide Catoctin sophomores and juniors with a free practice test to see how you might score on test day on Friday, December 14, 12-3 pm. Afterwards the test, Sylvan will give a personalized evaluation of your performance along with suggestions on ways to improve your score. Seats are limited. Call 301-662-2727 to register by December 10.

Parents of Class of 2019: Your Help is Needed!
Senior Families - if you are not planning to sell the blue cash raffle tickets that were mailed to you earlier this year, please send them back the committee as soon as possible so they can be sold to other families. Unsold tickets can be dropped off at the CHS front office to be put in the Safe and Sane mailbox.
