The Science Department is requesting donations of lab supplies. If you'd like to donate, we are in need of: small cups (styrofoam, plastic or paper), dixie cups (plastic or paper), large clear salad containers (large ones from Costco or grocery store - no lids needed), all sizes of ziploc baggies and coffee filters. Please have your student drop off donations to their science teachers, or leave them in the front office marked "MoMS Science". Thanks so much for your support of MoMS Science!
In Mrs. Ivey's 8th grade science classes, we have completed our Inheritance Unit and have begun our Biotic Diversity Unit. We will be studying anatomical structures and determining common ancestry. We will use anatomical similarities and differences among modern organisms to infer evolutionary relationships.
Hard to believe that Friday, Dec. 9th is already mid-term for term 2. In case you did not know, students can access the Go Math textbook at home by opening the Chrome browser. When logging into the Chrome Browser the students will have to enter their email (______@my.fcps.org) and their chosen password. Once they are logged into the browser they will be asked if they want to “link Data” and the answer is yes. This will allow the FCPS.org Bookmarks folder to show up in the left side of the bookmarks bar. Here is a video to show you the steps to log onto the Chrome browser: https://my.hrw.com/sp/access?sp=hrw&connection=MD-FCPS-00456966 OR
The students can also access the textbook at home by directly clicking on this link: https://my.hrw.com/sp/access?sp=hrw&connection=MD-FCPS-00456966 and then logging in with their email (_____@my.fcps.org) and their chosen password.
6th Grade
The first week of December, 6th Grade students will be working on the benchmark for the first 3 Units. Then they will begin working on Unit 4: Understanding Algebraic Relationships (reading, writing and evaluating expressions).
7th Grade
7th grade students completed the benchmark for the first 3 units the end of November. They are continuing to learn all about rational numbers and solving real-world mathematical problems.
7th Accelerated
Students have completed the first benchmark for units 1-3 and are finishing up the Ratios & Proportions unit. Then students will be applying properties of operations to solve expressions and equations.
8th Grade
8th graders have also just completed the first benchmark for units 1-2. Students are continuing their work on linear equations. They are analyzing and solving linear equations as well as pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
Algebra I
Algebra 1 students will be finishing up the unit on linear functions. Mid-December they will be taking their first benchmark assessment. In the past students had to pass this assessment in order to get credit for the algebra course but the regulations have changed. The benchmark is now averaged into a student’s term grade instead of being scored in isolation.
