News from the Office
Welcome Back!
We are so excited to see students on Tuesday, September 3, as we open a brand new school year. To make sure you have a great first day, here are some important reminders.
Start and End Times - Drop Off and Pick Up
School doors will open at 7:30 am. Students will wait in designated areas until 7:55am when Lancer Time teachers will escort their students to their Lancer Time classroom.
Are you wondering who your child's Lancer Time teacher is? In looking at your child's schedule, it is the last class listed after period 7. Instead of having a period of 1-7 listed, it will say LT.
6th grade
Gym
7th grade
8th grade
Cafeteria
Students will report to Lancer Time by 8:00, listen to morning announcements and be counted for daily attendance. Students arriving after 8:00 will be marked "Tardy."
Tuesday and Wednesday NMMS will run on a modified schedule. For the first two hours of school on Tuesday and Wednesday students will be in their Lancer Time classrooms to receive general information and forms that will need to be filled out. Students will be provided with a locker the morning of their first day.
For the first week of school, students will be dismissed on a staggered schedule: 6th grade at 2:55, 7th grade at 2:57, 8th grade at 2:59. After the first week, all students will be dismissed from their 7th period classes at 3:00 to go to their lockers. If your student rides a bus, please have them write their bus number down so that they don't forget. Please be prepared for drop off/pick up delays during the first week.
Lunch Routines
Lunch is a 30 minute period that includes recess.
Lunch Shifts for Tuesday and Wednesday are:
12:36 - 1:06
1:14 - 1:44
11:58 - 12:28
The lunch shift for Thursday and Friday (Regular Lunch Schedule)
12:49 - 1:19
11:07 - 11:37
Students may bring their own lunch or buy a lunch from the cafeteria. Please visit the School Meals section at www.fcps.org for complete information on School Meals. We look forward to welcoming our students Tuesday morning!
This year FCPS has a new updated electronic Permission Form for Chromebooks (both renting and using a personal device). It is located in School Cash Online https://frederickcounty.schoolcashonline.com/. There is no fee to complete this form. We ask that you please complete this form prior to the first day of school, if you are able.
If you are renting a Chromebook, please pay the fee in School Cash Online prior to the first day of school. This will help make the distribution process faster.
IMPORTANT: If you stopped by the Open House in August and completed a paper form, we are requesting that you go into School Cash Online and complete the UPDATED electronic form. Thank you!
Parents and guardians have the option to email NMMS.attendance@fcps.org for all absences including sick days, early dismissal and late arrivals, as well as vacation notes.
Paper attendance notes are still accepted! Students can hand in excuse notes to Ms. Barclay in the front office.
Please contact us with any attendance questions. Thank you!
In an effort to limit classroom disruptions, we are asking for your help.
If your student needs to leave early, please send a note to school with him/her, or email NMMS.attendance@fcps.org in the morning, so that we can plan ahead for their dismissal. By doing so, the front office can issue your student a pass ahead of time. For those unplanned events in which your child needs to leave early, or have a change in their transportation, we ask that you call us, (240-236-4600) or email us prior to their lunch time. A pass or message will be given to the student during their lunch. Regular lunch times are as follows:
6th grade – 11:58 – 12:28
7th grade – 12:49 – 1:19
8th grade – 11:07 – 11:37
Thank you for your help in minimizing interruptions to the classroom and maximizing learning time!

Sixth Grade students will go to Outdoor School early in September. Each day, the students are out of the school building from 8-3. Students need to dress for the weather and bring their lunch, or order lunch from the school cafeteria.
