NMMS Parents and Guardians: Did you know that there was a transportation delay board? This delay board is a way that transportation can communicate with the public and schools when a bus is running 10 minutes or more late. The information may be accessed on the FCPS website at this link: https://apps.fcps.org/transdelay/
So, if your child's bus is running more than 10 minutes late, check out the delay board!!
Is your family moving?
Are you changing or dropping childcare providers?
Will your child switch from walker or car rider to bus rider? Or vice versa?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, please print and complete the form linked below, and return DIRECTLY to your child's current school.

Keeping You Informed
We recently learned about a new device called a Dab Pen which students are using to inhale THC. Dab Pens are like electronic cigarettes, except they are used to smoke small amounts of marijuana. THC in liquid or wax form is inserted into the Dab Pen. The pen (like an e-cigarette) heats the wax or liquid which becomes vaporized and is inhaled through the pen. These devices are very small, easy to conceal, and it takes only a few seconds to inhale small doses of high potency THC.
What does a Dab Pen look like? Click the links below:
https://fcps.ezcommunicator.net/edu/frederick/GetFile.aspx?DocId=10886
https://fcps.ezcommunicator.net/edu/frederick/GetFile.aspx?DocId=10887
Smoking small doses of high potency THC can produce an intense, long-lasting high. However, the effects can severely impair the individual, putting them at risk of injury and bodily harm for several hours. Some users experience hallucinations which can last for several days. Some who use dabs end up going to the hospital because of unusual behavior or feelings, especially paranoia and psychotic episodes. Because dabs release an incredibly large amount of THC in the body, they cause the body to build up a greater tolerance much faster than other methods of consuming marijuana. They are also more likely to cause dependency and addiction. Recently, in a neighboring Maryland county, two high school students were hospitalized after experiencing medical problems from vaping THC.
Although stores are not permitted to sell vaping products to anyone under the age of 18, students can purchase the devices online or from friends and family members. Please discuss this matter with your children. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact an administrator or counselor.
Vaping and smoking are prohibited on all Frederick County Public School properties.

State’s Attorney for Frederick County to Discuss Servant Leadership at FCC
Frederick, Md. -- Charlie Smith, State’s Attorney for Frederick County, will speak at Frederick Community College (FCC) at 7 p.m. on April 10 as part of the Moving Mountains Speaker Series.
Smith’s talk, “We, Not Me…The Key to High Performance,” will focus on servant leadership. Smith says his own desire to serve to lead is the reason for much of his personal and professional growth and accomplishment.
The event is the last of the 2018-2019 Moving Mountains series. The monthly series features inspiring professionals who share their life experiences and encourage teens and young adults to set the bar high in all areas of their lives.
Smith says while servant leadership is a concept that has been passed down generation after generation through principals of government and military, it is an idea that has a lot of relevance for students.
“Students can also benefit from moving to a 'we' not 'me' culture,” Smith said. “It works everywhere as people consistently want to give their all to leaders who put the interests of common good – the team and/or objective – before their own interests.”
First elected in 2006, Smith is currently serving his fourth term as State’s Attorney for Frederick County. He started as a prosecutor in Baltimore City in 1988, and later became Chief of the Special Victims Unit in Frederick. He was appointed Deputy State’s Attorney in 1999.
Smith has been a faculty member at the National College of District Attorneys since 1999, and has also taught at FCC and Mount St. Mary’s University.
The sessions are free and open to the public and will take place in the JBK Theater, located inside the Visual & Performing Arts Center on campus. No registration is required to attend. Teens and young adults who attend and sign in for three of the six sessions in an academic year are eligible to receive a certificate of leadership and participation.
