PTSA Officers Needed; Next Meeting
Next year the PTSA will need a new president, treasurer and a secretary. All these positions will need to be filled in order for there to be a PTSA next year. The time commitment is significantly less than that in elementary school PTAs. The PTSA supports cultural arts, field trips, teacher appreciation, and many other activities that enhance our children's school environment. No experience required. If you have any questions or interest, please email presidentnmmsptsa@gmail.com.
Our next meeting will be April 9 at 7pm in the media center. We keep all meeting to one hour or less. Please join us!

SUMMER SESSION LEARNING- HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT Find details and registration materials for 2019 POSS* and TRAD** at https://education.fcps.org/fcvs/ (select "Summer Session Learning Options") See participation expectations, dates, times and registration fees. Deadline: Completed registration forms must reach school counselors before Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 3 PM. Do not delay! Enrollment is limited. Courses do fill up quickly so return the form as soon as possible.
The FCPS Frederick County Virtual School (FCVS) manages all summer programs offering courses for credit. Some programs are offered at specific schools and in specialized programs with enrollment by invitation only.
PROGRAMS OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT The below-referenced POSS and TRAD Programs are held at Governor Thomas Johnson MIDDLE School.
*Partially Online Summer Session (POSS)
POSS is for FCPS high school students who are independent, self-motivated learners; they must be currently enrolled and entering 9th-12th grade in the 2019-2020 school year. The session offers honors and elective courses for grade improvement or original credit. Students work in a blended-learning environment, meeting face-to-face once each week while also completing structured online coursework outside of class (requires internet and consistent computer access).
**Traditional (TRAD) High School Summer Session HS TRAD is for currently enrolled FCPS high school students who benefit from a structured learning environment and want to recover credit in core-content courses required for graduation. In this blended-learning environment, students meet daily with certified FCPS teachers and use online courses to support academic goals.
Are you interested in joining our Staff Appreciation Committee? We need creative, fresh, and clever ideas to help show our appreciation to our incredible teachers and staff at NMMS!!! If you are interested and able to help coordinate an AMAZING Staff Appreciation Week (5/6-5/10), please contact Allison Moran, amoran822@gmail.com or 301-651-2121.
NMMS Parents and Guardians: Did you know that there was a transportation delay board? This delay board is a way that transportation can communicate with the public and schools when a bus is running 10 minutes or more late. The information may be accessed on the FCPS website at this link: https://apps.fcps.org/transdelay/
So, if your child's bus is running more than 10 minutes late, check out the delay board!!
Is your family moving?
Are you changing or dropping childcare providers?
Will your child switch from walker or car rider to bus rider? Or vice versa?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, please print and complete the form linked below, and return DIRECTLY to your child's current school.

Transportation Change Form in Spanish
IMPORTANT: Remember to update your transportation information early! Late changes will require that students use the nearest existing bus stop until route updates can be made.
Attendance News

Please help students meet the goal every day!

Music News
The Eighth Grade Band will be performing for the Frederick County Adjudication Festival on Monday, April 1 at Oakdale High School. The purpose of the trip is to perform three prepared pieces and a sight-reading selection for a panel of judges. Ensemble scores will be converted and used as part of the students' Benchmark test in music. The Festival provides students with an opportunity to perform music at a high level of musical excellence and to listen to performances by their peers. Parents are welcome to listen to the 12:30 PM performance on stage but will not be permitted into the sight-reading room.

What is Self-Confidence?
“Low self-confidence isn’t a life sentence. Self-confidence can be learned practiced, and mastered—just like any other skill. Once you master it, everything in your life will change for the better.” –Barrie Davenport
Being self-confident means that you believe in yourself. You are not afraid to take risks and face your fears. Self-confident individuals have a positive outlook on life and believe that things will get better when they are not going so well. Having low self-confidence has many negative effects on an individual’s life. With a fear of rejection, our decision making process can become skewed. This could cause an individual to adopt the undesirable values of their group I order to fit in, instead of being confident with their differing opinion. It is so easy for our need to impress to take over our individuality. With strong self-confidence, an individual will have more skills and resources to say “no” to these negative behaviors. Self-confidence can be a great motivational tool for individuals to use.
