News from our Admin Team
Dear Students and Families,
We are so grateful for such a wonderful turnout for our Back to School Night. Thank you for supporting SRES! If you were unable to attend, please reach out to your child's teacher and they can share their presentation. If you missed the first session, the administration message is linked here: https://bit.ly/3RsEmmd
We will be conducting many of our safety drills in September. We will send out a Find Out First after we have completed our drills so you can discuss them at home with your children.
We are sad to say goodbye to our Administrative Secretary, Missy Myers. Missy's last day was August 31st. Ms. Myers is moving into another position. SRES wishes her all the best and we will miss her! We have hired her replacement and will be sharing more information once we know her start date.
Diane Stefanick, our school secretary, will be holding down the office for now! Please send all transportation notices/changes to Diane.Stefanick@fcps.org. All transportation emails and calls need to be received by 3:00pm.
All attendance emails should be sent to Diane Stefanick, Diane.Stefanick@fcps.org and Debbie Shaw (Community Liaison) at Deborah.Shaw@fcps.org.
Our front office will be closed for dismissal between
3:30-4:00pm. Thank you for patience as we focus on dismissal and the safety of our students.
With Roo Pride,
Mr. Bowser, Principal & Mrs. Copen, Assistant Principal
Parent News:
Cell Phones and Smartwatch Policy
As access to technology increases for students, it is important that we communicate FCPS regulations related to the use of cell phones and smartwatches. Students are not permitted to use these devices during the school day in any manner which is disruptive to the learning environment. Cell phones and smartwatches should be powered off and out of sight. (in backpacks, not in classroom desks)
Students have been using smartwatches to send/receive text messages and also have been utilizing other features to access apps which are not permitted in school. This has occurred in the classrooms, at lunch/recess, and during dismissal time. Students have also shared that parents are tracking their movement/location during the day and messaging them while at school and asking them to respond. This is causing a disruption to students’ learning.
FCPS Regulation 400-18 - B-4 states: At the elementary level, use of electronic devices may be permitted with the approval of the principal.
At this time Smartwatches, which include wearable devices with the ability to call, text, track location, record, or access apps, are not permitted to be worn during the school day. These should be placed in backpacks and out of sight during the school day. If you believe you have an extenuating circumstance or medical reason/exemption, you can request a policy exception form from the school by contacting the principal.
