Welcome Back Falcon Families,
We are so happy to have you! As we begin our new school year we welcome a new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Nicole Bell to the team as well as a new community liaison Lourdes Reig. We continue to be committed to serve you and our community. We are serving 3 year olds, 4 year olds, and Kindergarten-Fifth this year. We are extremely excited to expand to better serve our young children in a full day Pre-k program.
Thank you for coming to our Back to School night. We hope that it was informative and helpful for you and your child. If you attended, you were given information regarding the curriculum, procedures and expectations this year. If you did not attend, the presentations and information can be requested at the front office. Please check the NFES website for our administrative welcome video that shares information about our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Nicole Bell.
You also received at Back to School Night a copy of the Title 1 brochure. It is available online and at the front office. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
FARM (Free and Reduced Meal Forms) –These forms help you and help our school! If you need help completing the form please contact Lourdes Reig at 240-236-2006, or speak with Ayana White. You can also complete the from online at www.fcps.org or www.heartlandapps.com
Our PTA has already been meeting and planning for wonderful support for our school. We hope that you will join in supporting our school in this way. This money may go toward classroom materials, incentives like lanyards, cultural arts programs, books and field trip costs! We need you! Please consider a position such as membership, spirit wear, or a variety of others to help PTA out!
Have you been getting our Find Out First emails through the summer? If not, please update your email with our front office so they we can ensure we have the right one in our system. This will then automatically update our FOF notifications.
Attendance reminder from Maryland State Department of Education: Families are reminded that only 5 vacation days will be given in the calendar school year. Absences after 5 will be coded as unlawful absences. Please help us to ensure students are here as much as they can be!
Recycling at NFES! We will be embarking on a new recycling program this school year! We will begin by teaching the students in the month of September how to sort their trash into appropriate bins so that we can help recycle and take care of food waste that can be composted. Would you like to help? We could use volunteers at lunch shifts. Please contact Alex Brown, volunteer coordinator.
Weapons possession reminder: It is unlawful for students to possess or use any weapon on school property. Students who have or use a weapon on school property will be suspended from school, and the police will be notified of the incident. A weapon is any object designed to harm another physically or an object which is used in a way that can physically harm another. This school is committed to providing each of you with a safe environment, and we will do all we can to carry out that responsibility, including, if necessary, conducting searches of student lockers.
Donations request: Teachers are requesting dry erase markers especially for 5th graders this school year. If you could send in black dry erase markers for donation we would appreciate it.
Please feel free to call or stop in if I can help you in any way.
Looking forward to an awesome year!
Mrs. Seiss

Social Worker's Suite -
Hello Parents!!!
I hope you enjoyed your summer and I hope your child(ren) are beginning the new school year with enthusiasm, positive attitude, and an eagerness to learn. For those of you who are new to the school this year, my name is Ayana White, LCSW-C (Licensed Certified Social Worker~Clinical). I am the School Social Worker. The mission of school social work is to promote and support students’ emotional well-being in an educational setting by providing specialized services to address social, emotional, and academic growth while promoting an environment that creates a culture of wellness across the school community. My primary role is to partner directly with parents, students, and teachers to assist children in reaching their full potential. Through confidential consultation I am able to assist families in the following areas:
Crisis Intervention: Provide support to families when dealing with loss of employment or housing, need for food, and mental health resources as needs arise.
Individual Counseling: I will often meet with children to provide emotional support when they are experiencing stress in a specific area. This could stem from family, school, or a specific life event. I can assist parents and teachers to understand why the child is feeling these stressors and develop a plan to immediately help. Some examples of why I meet with children include:
Group Counseling: I also provide group counseling to assist children both academically and socially. The primary goal of group intervention is that shared experiences, peer support, and effective modeling, children can learn healthy coping strategies to self-regulate in order to be available to learn. Throughout the year I often run a Zones of Regulation group which focuses on building empathy, self regulation, social skills, and self awareness.

Counselor's News-
It was wonderful to see many of you on Back to School Night! Our staff is excited to get to know you and your child to make this school year a successful and memorable one. Your child’s wellbeing is important to every staff member, and we insist on a zero tolerance policy for bullying. NFES maintains a comprehensive anti-bullying program; teachers, administrators, and the school counselor educate students about the steps to take if someone is unkind to them or others. The FCPS website (www.fcps.org) defines Bullying, Harassment, or Intimidation (see below), and provides an online form to report bullying. You may also get a paper copy of the form from the school. If you suspect your child is the target of bullying please contact your child’s teacher and/or Laura Vogtman, School Counselor at 240 236-2020. We want to work with you to make sure every student learns in a safe and comfortable environment.
Bullying, harassment, or intimidation means intentional conduct, including verbal, physical, or written conduct, or an intentional electronic communication, that: (I) creates a hostile educational environment by substantially interfering with a student’s educational benefits, opportunities, or performance, or with a student’s physical or psychological well-being and is: 1. motivated by an actual or a perceived personal characteristic including race, national origin, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ancestry, physical attribute, socioeconomic status, familial status, or physical or mental ability or disability; or 2. threatening or seriously intimidating; and (II) 1. occurs on school property, at a school activity or event, or on a school bus; or 2. substantially disrupts the orderly operation of a school. Electronic communication means a communication transmitted by means of an electronic device, including a telephone, cellular phone, computer, or pager.
