News from Principal Kimberly Seiss
As the weather changes and we wrap up more from the cold, our school has developed a "Giving Tree." If you would like to donate a pair of gloves, hat or scarf for a child in need, we would love to accept them for our tree. Thanks for considering this gift of warmth.
As we wrap up our quarter 1 monitoring of data, we have noticed some concerns in our attendance data. It is very important that children are in school every day, ready to learn! Studies show an early bedtime and a consistent morning routine plan support great attendance at school and better academic performance. If you need support for your family in your morning routine, please contact us. We would like to ensure our students are here and ready to learn! Please help our school with attendnace data by making doctor appointments and trips on days that FCPS is not in session. The FCPS school calendar outlines dates in advance for your planning.
Yours in Education,
Mrs. Seiss

Keeping You Informed
Attendance
Good attendance leads to success and boosts graduation. Our school goal is 96%.
NFES News:
Lost & Found
With the arrival of winter our Lost & Found is overflowing with garments looking for their home. Please have your student check the Lost & Found for any missing items.
NFES Giving Tree -
We have a Giving Tree in our Cafeteria lobby area now. The purpose of this Giving Tree is to give any student/family member an item from the tree when needed. Currently, we have some hats and mittens hanging on the tree and non perishable items underneath the tree. Our hope is to restock with other items as well throughout the month (gloves, scarves, toiletries). If you would like to donate an item for the tree, you can have your student bring it in, or you can sign in and hang it on the tree with them.
Volunteer Orientation Date Set!
We will hold our Volunteer Training Thursday, Dec. 13 at 8:30am in the Cafeteria. If you would like to volunteer in the school (including Field Trip Chaperones) you must attend a training. If you cannot attend this training date, please contact the school to make other arrangements.
Applying for Out of District status for your student -
The FCPS Assignment and Transfer of Students Regulation 400-15 is revised to include new application dates. Click on the link above to learn more.
Parents/legal guardians who wish to apply for a child to attend a school outside the usual attendance area must do so between January 2 and March 1* prior to each new school year.
FCPS will post the out-of-district application on January 2 at www.fcps.org in the section labeled For Families and Students. Note: Schools that are projected to be over capacity in the coming school year are restricted, so that only students residing in the school's attendance area may go there. Students may not transfer to a school projected to be over capacity. After December 1, FCPS will post a list of schools that are restricted for the 2019-2020 school year.
*In the prior version of the regulation in place last year, the application window was April 1-May 31. In 2019, FCPS will post applications Wednesday, January 2, due by Friday, March 1.

Counselor's Update- Peer Mentor ProgramLeaders are on the rise at North Frederick Elementary, and we would like to congratulate the following 5th grade students for their service to our school community! Projects our Peer Mentors are working on include, raising money for a cause, teaching students via video about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, creating a rock community for our front hallway, collecting non perishable items through December for the local food bank and creating a kindness banner the entire school will contribute to with messages of kindness and well being. We are so proud of these 18 students because they truly demonstrate the 6 pillars of character each and every day!!
