Dear Falcons,
I am so proud of our students and families hard work during this time of Continuity of Learning. As I work in and out of our teacher's Schoology and Google classrooms, I am so very impressed with all students are accomplishing. Keep up the great effort and please reach out if I can be of any assistance. I hope you are catching our daily morning announcements! I made an appearance on them twice this week! Please know if your family is in need of food, you do not have to previously be signed up to come to our meals at NFES or to Blessings in a Backpack distribution. Information below. Virtual hugs to the Falcons! I miss their energy and smiles and I am enjoying watching them in padlets, and seesaw and other amazing virtual ways!

PTA Board Nominations Sought:
PTA NEEDS YOU! It’s not too early to think about the 2020-21 school year! If you are interested in serving on the board or learning more about executive committee roles, reach out to president Jasmine Sneed via text/voice 240-446-2303 or jasmine@jasminesneed.com.
Hershey Park:
Thank you for your patience as we continue to work with Hersheypark regarding when they will provide the tickets to us for distribution. They have shared the good news that given the information currently available, and assuming Pennsylvania lifts the closure order of non-life sustaining businesses, Hersheypark will now work to open in early June 2020. Group tickets, including earned complimentary tickets purchased before the start of our 2020 summer season will be valid through June 30, 2021.
Netiquette
BSS, Erin Malone
‘Chew with your mouth closed’
‘Say please and thank you’
‘Don’t interrupt – wait your turn to speak’
How many times have you issued those commands? Me – thousands!
Teaching our kids manners and safety is something many parents just do automatically. We provide the hot tips as we go about our daily lives. But how many of us extend our advice to cyber issues?
Have you ever heard the term, “Netiquette”?
Netiquette (net + etiquette) is the “code of conduct” applied to online spaces. Teaching students about netiquette is just as important (if not more so) as teaching them to use technology or master content.
Netiquette is etiquette (polite behavior) for the internet!
Remember that your FCPS school account is for school. Everything that you do on your school account should be dealing with school. It is important to recognize that the online classroom is in fact a classroom, and certain behaviors are expected when you communicate with both peers and teachers. Please review the following guidelines with your child regarding Netiquette at NFES.
NFES Online Learning
Do’s
Don’ts
Be respectful.
Be kind and treat others as you want to be treated.
Think to yourself, “Would I say this to someone’s face?”
Type in all CAPS.
Use inappropriate language.

Children’s Mental Health Matters! School Champion!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. May 4-8 is Children's Mental Health Awareness Week. Thursday May 7, 2020
is Children’s Mental Health Matters Day!
Go Green
Encourage your child to wear something green to raise
awareness of the importance of children’s mental health. Please take a photo and email it to megan.ross@fcps.org
Also continue to watch out for fun ways NFES will celebrate and promote Mental Health Awareness all month.
· Mental health impacts:
o How we feel about ourselves
o How we relate to others
o How we handle new, stressful, and challenging situations
· One of every five children experience a mental emotional or behavioral health problem before age 18.
· Up to 70% of school-aged children with a diagnosable mental illness do not receive treatment.
· Early intervention is the best way to prevent long-term or severe conditions into adulthood.
· Mental health is something everyone has, regardless of age, gender, race, culture, income, or education. Mental health awareness helps all children have opportunities to be successful in school, at home, in the community, and in their future adult lives.
Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week is a great time to learn ways to support children’s mental health and how to recognize signs of mental health problems, especially during these times of social isolation. If you need to talk to someone, please reach out to the Care Team for support. Ms. White, School Social Worker 240-236-2006 or Mrs. Vogtman School Counselor 240-236-2020, or Mrs. Malone Behavioral Support Specialist 240-236-1977, or our School Psychologist Mr. Allen wesley.allen@fcps.org
