October 17, 2019
Hello Falcon Families,
We look forward to having you at conference week next week! We really want to see you and share the amazing things about your child. Directions to sign up for conferences are below in this newsletter as well as information about the schedule in our calendar. Please know there are many ways to continue communication with your child's teacher. If you need to request a time to meet with them you can reach them by calling the front office and asking to be put into their voicemail. You can email them or you can write a note in your child's agenda. Some teachers also communicate through a Class Do Jo application. We want to help you feel a part of our daily work with your child.
If your child is participating in a club we really need your help. Our teachers and parents are volunteering an hour after school to run some of our current clubs. We are having to call parents who are late each week to come pick their children up from the club. When this occurs it is causing our teachers to be late for their own appointments or to pick up their own families. The front office is also closed by 4:30 and earlier on the days that we do not have Extended Learning Opportunities as our school's regular dismissal expectation is at 3:20. Please help us show respect to our volunteers of clubs by picking your children up in time. We don't want to discourage these wonderful clubs!
Thank you,
Mrs Seiss
*New* Crossing Guard location change.
Due to the lack of Crossing Guard use at the Motter Ave and 12th Street location, the Frederick Police Department has decided to move the Crossing Guard to our Fairview Ave and 12th Street crosswalk at the front entrance of our school. The Crossing Guard at Motter Ave and 9th Street will stay in their same location for children that have to cross Motter Ave. This change is to occur on October 21, 2019.

Counselor's Corner-
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The month of October NFES will join the world and our country by shining a spotlight on the very disturbing problem of Bullying. We will be doing several things to raise the awareness of what bullying type behavior is, and how to overcome it. Throughout this month I will be visiting classes to help students identify the difference between being a By-Stander and an Upstander, what a Target is and what constitutes Bully behavior. We will discuss the different players in a bullying triangle and strategies to help. No child should have to bear the burden of being bullied, and we are planning to do all that we can to assure that NFES is a bully free zone and most importantly a caring and safe place to learn!

Social Worker's Suite -
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.
The pictures above are just a few influencers of the Hispanic community (from left to right): Gloria and Emilio Estefan, 2018 Gershwin Prize Winners. Let’s continue to CELEBRATE our diverse school community!!! NFES is having a Spanish Speaking Community Night in November, so stay tuned for the date and time!!
