From Principal Doll I want to thank you for attending our Registration Night last month. This week and next, your child will be attending assemblies to hear about the outstanding programs we offer at LHS. I cannot stress enough several things: 1) Do not rush your child through high school. They need 25 credits for graduation; the high school schedule, over the four years, allows for your child to earn 32 credits. Encourage your child the opportunity to try something new. 2) Work with your child to choose courses wisely. We build our Master Schedule based on initial student requests.
Our school counselors have received numerous schedule change requests this week. Many cannot be accommodated because classes are full or there are limited sections based on what students selected last spring. That is why we remind students to choose wisely.
What do colleges and universities want? Each is different, but they want to see that students have taken courses that challenge them. The best advice is to visit the college/university website and see what each wants.
Our Career and Technology Center offers many choices for students who can earn certifications and real life experience. Students need to shadow programs before applying to CTC.
For students currently in grades 9 or 10, registration requests are due February 8. Registration requests for current juniors are due February 11. All requests will be submitted through your child’s Naviance account; please review those selections before your child submits them.
Report Cards Due to weather cancellations and delays, FCPS report cards will be sent home on Thursday, February 7th, instead of the originally scheduled date of Wednesday, February 6th.
AP Exam Registration Registration for May 2019 AP exams is now open. First semester students have their registration packets, and second semester student registration packets will be distributed next week. Parents are encouraged to use SchoolCash online, but checks are also accepted. All AP students are encouraged to take the test. There is financial assistance for students with demonstrated need. Contact Nancy Boyenton 240-566-9719 for more information.
