LHS State Testing Schedule PARCC TESTING FOR ENGLISH 10 Monday, January 14 Students taking the English PARCC test will need to use headphones or earbuds. We encourage those that have their own to bring them for the test. PARCC TESTING Algebra 1 Monday, January 14 Students taking the Algebra II exams should bring their calculator.
It's Academic The Academic Team season continues tonight (1/11) with a doubleheader. That's right, two matches for the price of one. Everyone is invited to come out to Frederick High School to support the team (admission is free, as usual). We will be competing against Walkersville and Tuscarora in the third match (around 7 pm) and against Catoctin and TJ in the fourth match (around 7:30). The announced category round for both matches will include 10 questions on the music of the 1970's. We hope to see you there.
NAHS Jewelry Night - Learn how to make Charms The NAHS is sponsoring a jewelry night on Tuesday, February 12, from 6:00pm to 8:30 pm in room A211. We will teach you how to make charms using copper, brass and stones. We will be stamping out designs to create one of a kind charms. They can be used for earrings, necklaces etc. No prior experience neccesary, everyone is welcome.

Schedule Changes for Spring Semester: If your academic performance during fall semester necessitates a schedule change for spring, please complete a schedule change form by Wednesday, January 23rd so that the request can be reviewed before the start of the new semester. Students should list the class they want to drop and the class that they ideally want to add. All requests must start with a completed form with parent signature. Schedule change forms can be picked up in Student Services or found on the school website at: https://education.fcps.org/lhs/scheduling No schedule change forms will be accepted from January 24 to January 30. Please be aware that class options are very limited due to class size.
Pink Recommendation Forms: Current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors received a pink recommendation form in PREP this week. Students are encouraged to talk to their current teachers about course suggestions for next year. Registration Information Night will be held on Wednesday, January 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This is an opportunity to talk to teachers about the various programs and courses offered in Linganore. In addition, students will attend assemblies at the start of spring semester to learn about course offerings. The registration surveys will open in Naviance on January 24th. Registration surveys must be completed by Friday, February 8th at 11:59 pm.
Seniors: Midyear transcripts will be sent to all colleges to which you applied by February 15 when fall semester grades are complete and GPAs updated. Seniors do not need to request midyear transcripts of Student Services.
Freshmen and Sophomores: If you are interested in attending the Career and Technology Center (CTC) next year, you must first shadow your program (or two) of interest. New CTC Program: FCPS high school students entering grades 10-12 next school year may enroll in an exciting new program offered at the FCPS Career and Technology Center (CTC): Physical Therapy. The Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Program will expose students to varied careers related to the physical and occupational therapy field, as it integrates concepts of: physical therapy, occupational therapy, kinesiology, and athletic training. Students will focus on: musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardio-pulmonary, and integumentary-related injuries, diseases and disorders. In addition, students will focus on preventive activities, therapeutic practices and rehabilitation. CTC staff will facilitate the application process for the new program during the current 2018-2019 school year. Students will not have to shadow this year; interested students only need to submit an application online at www.careertech.net. Questions? Muse Athletic Scholarship Application Open: The Community Foundation of Frederick County’s Dustin Muse Athletic Scholarship application opens January 1, 2019 and remains open through 11:59 p.m. on February 15, 2019. Students in grades 6 through 12 may apply for scholarships to attend 2019 spring and summer athletic and sports activities or athletic camps. Scholarships support participation fees only, and payment will be made directly to the youth athletic organization and/or as a reimbursement to the parent/guardian with proof of payment. Applicants must be Frederick County residents and have achieved a minimum 3.0 grade point average. To access the application, visit www.ScholarshipsFrederickCounty.com. Reynolds Young Writers Workshop: This is an opportunity for high school students to work with award-winning authors whose work has appeared in publications like The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and SB Nation; who have published books; who care deeply about storytelling; and who love to teach. The workshop is held at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The program runs from June 16–23, 2019. Financial assistance is available to families who need it, and information about the program is online at reynolds.denison.edu. The online application portal will open on Monday, January 7, 2019. Applications must be submitted no later than Sunday, March 3, 2019, at 11:59 p.m.
Army ROTC Scholarships: The Army ROTC National Scholarship program (https://hs.usarmyrotc.com/dana-na/auth/url_22/welcome.cgi) is a great way for student/athlete/leaders to finance a college degree while completing ROTC and ultimately, serving their country. The application window is still open for current seniors, but the window is starting to narrow. To apply for the ROTC Scholarship, an application must be started by 04 February 2019 @ 1159pm EST. If you have started an application by 04 February 2019, you have until 04 March 2019 @ 1159pm EST to complete your application. To appear before a Selection Board to be considered for a scholarship, applicants must submit a completed application, including the PMS interview, by 1159pm EST on one of the below “Document Submission Deadlines.”
