URGENT Financial Aid Update from The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC)
The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) wants to increase the number of students completing and submitting their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form before the May 15th State Priority Deadline.
It's important that Maryland high school students submit their 2024-25 FAFSA form as soon as possible, because Maryland students may receive
state financial aid from the information they provide on their federal FAFSA form. Each year, MHEC provides about 65,000 students with more than $130 million in state financial aid to attend college.
According to the National College Attainment Network, as of March 22, 2024, only 36.8% of Maryland high school seniors have submitted their FAFSA. MHEC wants to make sure that all high school seniors know the priority deadline for submitting their FAFSA was extended from March 15 to May 15. However,
students should complete and submit their FAFSA as soon as possible to be eligible for state financial aid.
We are including the U.S. Department of Education's toolkit, along with the videos provided below in an effort to help spread the word. Remember, Maryland students could
benefit from both federal and state financial aid to attend a Maryland higher education institution by filling out the FAFSA as soon as possible.
Please share the information below with anyone you feel would benefit from learning more about how to successfully complete the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Form.
