Lost and Found: All lost and found items were put on display in the cafeteria Thursday and Friday this week during all lunch shifts. The remaining lost and found items will remain in the front office Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26. All items remaining after Tuesday, November 26, will be donated to a local charity. If you are missing something, please stop by the front office before 2 pm on Tuesday.

Students Collecting Donations for COIPP Rho Kappa and the Mock Trial Team are collecting donations for Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership (COIPP). Boxes will be located in the Front Office, Student Services, Mrs. Hendi's room (A213), and Mrs. Peterson's room (C215). Donations will be collected through Friday, December 13, 2019. Collecting Can Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House The Key Club is collecting soda can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Please pull the tab from your cans at lunch and bring in your tabs from home. Collection bins are located on the pillars in the cafeteria and in the front office.
Bag Bingo: The Linganore High School Band Boosters will be holding a Bag Bingo at the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department Activities Building on Friday, December 6, at 7 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM, 25 regular games are included with each ticket; extra games, specials, pull tabs and 50/50 will also be available. Prizes will feature items from Thirty-One, Coach, Kate Spade and Michael Kors. The LVFD Auxiliary will be selling refreshments. Freshmen and Sophomores Interested in CTC for Next Year: You must shadow your program of interest at the Career and Technology Center (CTC) to apply for next year. Stop by Student Services to pick up a shadow permission slip. The shadow is a half day commitment, transportation is provided by FCPS and students must make-up any missed work.
Seniors: If you plan to apply to 4-year colleges this year, remember that you must submit the Transcript Release and Request Form (The Orange Form) 30 days in advance of your earliest deadline. Also remember to complete your Senior Profile Survey in Naviance so that counselors and teachers can write letters of recommendations. If you have colleges with January 1 or 15 deadlines, you must submit your request to Student Services by Monday, December 9 due to counselors not working over winter break. Academy of Fine Arts (AFA) at Governor Thomas Johnson High School: Students interested in a Fine Arts career pathway are encouraged to visit the Academy for the Fine Arts during one of its Shadow Days. American Legion Oratorical Contest: American Legion Gold Star Post 191 in Mt. Airy will hold their local Oratorical Contest on Saturday, January 25 at 1:30 pm. Students prepare a memorized speech of 8 to 10 minutes in length about an aspect of the U. S. Constitution, with some emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to our government. For Current Juniors Only: The United States Army Medical Research Institute of infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Ft. Detrick is now accepting applicants for challenging internships. Interns gain hands-on biomedical research experience in areas such as virology,. immunology, genomics, and others. This opportunity is similar to the National Cancer Institute internship program, but it requires a separate paper application. These competitive internships require paid training full-time for eight weeks this summer and then continue for two periods both semesters of the senior year. Juniors Interested in the Apprenticeship Program: On Wednesday, December 18, twenty juniors from Linganore may attend the Youth Apprenticeship Summit. The intent of the Summit is to give students a chance to talk to youth apprenticeship employers and hear from current Youth Apprentices about their experiences in the program. Sessions are also held on applying for positions and interviewing skills. There several new apprenticeships lined up for Spring semester including Plamondon Hospitality and Toothman Orthodontics, in addition to those in the fields of Automotive and Construction. Female members of the Class of 2021, Distinguished Young Women of Frederick County Program: Deadline to Apply January 1, 2020. Who is eligible: Class of 2021 young women (only juniors in high school), Amount Awarded: Over $20,000 in cash scholarships and over 200 colleges offer scholarships for participation, Requirements: Frederick County residents. 3.0 minimum GPA, How to Apply: Go to distinguishedyw.org and click APPLY NOW, Applying does not obligate them to participate, there is no fee to enter and this is NOT a beauty pageant.
Participants are evaluated in 5 areas and can win money overall and for individual categories: Scholastics (transcripts and test scores are evaluated), Interview (10-minute interview about yourself-we prepare you with mock interviews), Talent (a 90 second piece of your choice-can be any talent, i.e. karate, painting, monologue, singing, music, dancing), Fitness (A routine is taught to you. You do not have to be a dancer to do well), On stage speaking (answer a short question in front of an audience).
Seniors - The Jaycee Scholarship: This year the Maryland JCI Senate will award two $1,000 Scholarships to deserving seniors from Maryland high schools. The Maryland winners are chosen based on merit and need. The applications of the two Maryland winners are then forwarded to the US JCI SENATE FOUNDATION for consideration for a $1,000 Scholarship.
