Hello TJ Community!
The second half of term one is well under way. Mid-term grades have been submitted and are up to date in Schoology. Parents please take time to look at your student’s progress and achievement to date. We have a little over 3 weeks left in the term. Students can request tutoring with their teachers during CONNECT as well as attend after-school and virtual tutoring on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please look for the available times and schedule included in the newsletter.
I truly believe every child can be successful. I also believe that with consistent communication and partnership our students are more likely to rise to higher expectations. In my time with our students I have experienced unique talents, strengths and potential that deserves to be championed. We are constantly asking students about their grades, understanding and learning. Reinforcing the importance of doing their best and not settling for low expectations. Simply, emphasizing the CAN vs. the CAN’T. Eligibility will be reinstated at the end of term one. We want our Patriots eligible and READY for participation in extra-curricular activities, clubs and Homecoming.
Now an important message regarding arrival to school.
It is expected that students arrive on time to school. Those who demonstrate a pattern of late arrivals will experience consequences and loss of privileges. After 3 unexcused tardies to school, students will then be referred to an administrator. Detentions and removal from extracurricular activities will result. For those who miss more than 5 unexcused absences or have excessive tardies to block 1 are at risk of losing credit for the course.
Instruction begins at 7:30 am. Students who are late not only disrupt live instruction but also fall behind resulting in frustration and loss of learning.
We want our students to be successful and we want our teachers to maximize the time available in the classroom for a higher level of achievement. Attendance is a team effort and requires both parents and school professionals to work together. We are beyond mid-term so daily routines and normal school operations have been re-established.
We open our doors at 7:00 am. Students have plenty of time to arrive and make it to their first block class. Students who are not in first block by the 7:30 bell are required to check-in late in the attendance office at the front entrance of the school. Any student who is late beyond 7:59 am (unexcused) is issued lunch detention the same day. Those accumulating tardies before 7:59 am will be given consequences by their administrator.
We have all had challenges transitioning back to early mornings. However, we are now back to learning and back to accountability.
We thank our parents and guardians who reinforcing our expectations at home.
Sincerely,
Tracey K. Kibler
