Greetings –
We only have a few more weeks left in the third term then we will be at the halfway point for the second semester. It’s hard to believe that the school year is almost ¾ done! I encourage you to monitor your student’s grades on HAC and reach out to a teacher or counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
I have enjoyed the dialogue we have been having with parents over the innovative learning portion of our LYNX program. Two very important parts of our innovative learning system is the idea of Competency Based Education (CBE), and the many methods that teachers can choose from to deliver content to students (such as blended learning).
In an effort to keep parents informed I will start to use this weekly newsletter to showcase some of the items we are developing for students at FHS. I would also encourage any parent or students to attend our monthly PTSA meetings as this is a great forum where we can talk about instruction at Frederick High School.
To start the conversation, I would point you to a link on the FCPS website that describes many of the aspects of LYNX as well as gives an overview of CBE. https://www.fcps.org/lynx-at-frederick-high
In the next newsletter I will begin to go into greater detail about what CBE looks like in action at FHS now and where we would like to take it in the future. As we begin to develop a CBE model at Frederick High School, we welcome feedback! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you,
David Franceschina, Ed.D.
Principal, FHS
