Good Afternoon –
Term 1 is in the books! It’s hard to believe that we are ¼ way done with the school year. Students will not have class on Monday Nov 9th as teachers will be spending their time finalizing term 1 grades. Report Cards along with Habits of Work Score sheets will be mailed home to all families on Thurs Nov 19th. As we begin Term 2 it is vital that students stay on top of their assignments. In between Thanksgiving and Winter Break, term two moves pretty quickly. Remember, each term counts as 50% of the students’ final grade! We are blessed at FHS to have an extensive Learning Lab schedule. Teachers and support staff are available daily (See schedule below) to help students complete assignments and answer any questions they have in the afternoon and late evenings. If you are struggling please take advantage of this important resource!
We have a lot planned for the second term. School Counselors continue to work with our seniors getting their college applications ready so submit. Our senior class advisors have been regularly posting information in the class of 2021 School group, so it is important that seniors are checking in regularly to this group. We will also be having our annual electives fair late in the term as we always do. This will be the time students can learn about classes they can take in the 2022 school year. Information on how and when we are doing the fair will be going out in the weeks to come.
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out any time if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to assist you or your family.
Thank You,
David Franceschina, FHS
Principal, FHS

Frederick County Public Schools staff is providing live virtual instruction as an important part of the Full Virtual Model of instruction. In the event that students are unable to attend live virtual instruction via Google Meet, these sessions or part of these sessions will be video and audio recorded. The recorded session will be available for students who would like to review that content and instruction. We are balancing student privacy and the need for flexibility during this unprecedented pandemic.
Please review this parent Guide to help understand how Google Meet recordings will be used in instruction and security safeguards in place to protect student privacy.
Parent permission is required for teachers to record your students in the Google Meets. Teachers may begin recording beginning the week of September 8, 2002. Please let the school know whether or not your student has permission to be recorded in Google Meets. (Google Meet/Student Privacy and Security)
Students without permission will be asked to turn off their cameras and audio during the recorded portion of the lesson. Our goal is to get this additional resource online and available to students as soon as possible.
If Parents/Students and Remote Staff require Technical Support for Chromebooks or Laptops, please send an e-mail to Nick.Ribecca@fcps.org to arrange for a time to meet here at FHS.

As we approach the end of the term, it is a great time to reflect on your progress and habits of work. Reflection can help you reset for term 2 and also highlight your successes and progress. Take time to ask yourself these three questions.
STOP: What are the things hindering you from learning? What should you stop doing? Examples: procrastinating, staying up too late, skipping advocacy
START: What could you be doing to improve your learning? What should you start doing? Examples: Attend student support sessions in the afternoon, message teachers in Schoology with questions, sign up for a LYNX experience.
CONTINUE: What is going well so far? What should you keep doing to support your learning? Examples: Continue taking notes, continue attending sychronous sessions, continue attending learning lab in the evenings
Most importantly share this information with your parent/guardian or your teacher so that they can support you in this process!
We are here to help you!
Please reach out to your student's math teacher if you have any questions or concerns. You may also contact Leslie Byrd, math specialist, at leslie.byrd@fcps.org or at 240-397-9718 if you have any questions or concerns about your student's math progress.
