Good Afternoon –
As we approach the end of the term (Friday Nov 6), it is vital that students have all their assignments turned in so teachers have enough time to assess work to include it in the term 1 grade. This weekend would be a perfect time to sit down with your child and go through their Schoology gradebook. Don’t hesitate to reach out to teachers next week if you have any questions about assignments. We will be mailing all term 1 report cards along with Habits of Work scores home to families on November 19th.
Schools will be closed next Tuesday (Nov 3) for election day. Students do not need to sign into Schoology on Tuesday as it is a day off for them as well as teachers. FHS will be a voting center this year. I would strongly encourage everyone to get out and vote on Tuesday! We had many seniors in our building this past week taking the SAT. It was great to hear so many of them excited to take part in their first election. If you need more information on voting in Frederick County, here is the link to the county’s Board of Elections.
I hope you and your family have a peaceful weekend.
Thank You,
David Franceschina, FHS
Principal, FHS

Frederick County Public Schools staff is providing live virtual instruction as an important part of the Full Virtual Model of instruction. In the event that students are unable to attend live virtual instruction via Google Meet, these sessions or part of these sessions will be video and audio recorded. The recorded session will be available for students who would like to review that content and instruction. We are balancing student privacy and the need for flexibility during this unprecedented pandemic.
Please review this parent Guide to help understand how Google Meet recordings will be used in instruction and security safeguards in place to protect student privacy.
Parent permission is required for teachers to record your students in the Google Meets. Teachers may begin recording beginning the week of September 8, 2002. Please let the school know whether or not your student has permission to be recorded in Google Meets. (Google Meet/Student Privacy and Security)
Students without permission will be asked to turn off their cameras and audio during the recorded portion of the lesson. Our goal is to get this additional resource online and available to students as soon as possible.
If Parents/Students and Remote Staff require Technical Support for Chromebooks or Laptops, please send an e-mail to Nick.Ribecca@fcps.org to arrange for a time to meet here at FHS.

This week, we asked ourselves: what is your favorite Halloween costume or memory:
Mr. Brown: I once dressed up as Green Arrow (I was very in to season 1 of the CW show). Everyone assumed I was Robin Hood though, so I just kinda went with it.
Mr. Cleary: My favorite Halloween costume: Dressed up as Mr. Rogers since I dislike dressing up and all I had to put on was a sweater and white tennis shoes.
Mrs. Cramer: There isn't one particular memory that stands out to me. I loved when my kids were little, and we went to the pumpkin patch and trick or treated with their cousins.
Ms Hale: When I was a kid, 13 was considered too old to trick-or-treat. So... I decided to have fun passing out candy to the little kids. I made a scary witch costume and found a toy raven that said "beware the end is near" and cackled. I learned really quickly, don't press the button on the raven when the kids coming up the sidewalk are 3 or younger.
Ms. Ketrow: My favorite Halloween memory is of my neighbor across the street when I was growing up. Every year, he set up his grill and gave away free hot dogs and hot chocolate to anyone who stopped by. There was also lots of candy for the kids! After trick or treating was over for the evening, the whole neighborhood would gather in his yard to chat, even on the coldest of nights.
Ms. Kidd: My favorite Halloween memory is from about four years ago. I was in graduate school, and my parents surprised me with a trip to Disney World! When we arrived at the resort, my best friend from Washington state was waiting for us there! It was so great to see her and catch up, plus we got to go to the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! It was perfect :)
Mrs. McGrew: When I was in middle school, I dressed up as a mummy. We started with old bed sheets, but unfortunately we ran out. So we used toilet paper to finish the look!!
Mrs. Pfeil: One year I went as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and my 6'7 husband played along and went as a munchkin from the lollipop guild.
Ms. Pompe: Favorite costume: I went as a flapper for three years in a row in elementary school because I loved it so much. Favorite memory: My middle/high school had a haunted house fundraiser every year to raise money to build a new building and I always participated and it was fun to scare my teachers!
Mr. Smith: Favorite Halloween memory is when my daughter was 3 and went as Elsa for Halloween and sang "Let it Go" for most of the houses we visited Mrs. Strakonsky: my favorite costumes were the ones my daughter wore (made by her godmother): Minnie Mouse, I Dream of Jeannie, and Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. My next favorites have been the many seniors who dressed up during my years at FHS...so many original costumes!
