Greetings from FHS –
Today marks the middle of the first term for the fall semester. FHS will mail out midterms to all families on October 9th. You can always get the most updated version of your student’s grade on Schoology. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your student’s classroom teacher or school counselor if you have any questions about the progress your student is making.
I'd like like to congratulate FHS students Zach Chen and Nathan Pan for earning the status of National Merit Semifinalist! Over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. We are proud of our Frederick High Semi-Finalist and wish them luck as they move forward in the competition.
I hope you and your family have a peaceful weekend!
Sincerely,
David Franceschina, Ed.D. Principal, FHS

The City of Frederick Youth Advisory Council (YAC) advises City officials and staff on policies, programs, and issues relating to youth in the community. To continue its work, the YAC is soliciting feedback from youth/teens living in the City of Frederick regarding future projects, advocacy work, and more through a quick survey. The survey will remain open until Friday, October 30, 2020.
"Although COVID19 has halted many of our plans, over the past year we have created and distributed a survey to teenagers, been involved with the Golden Mile Alliance, started to create a student discount for high schoolers, and more. The Council makes recommendations regarding youth involvement, document translations, and voting concerns. Now we need your help! What's important to you? What would you like to see changed?" shared the YAC.
Youth/Teens: If you live in the City of Frederick, please provide your feedback here.
For more information regarding the Youth Advisory Council, please visit City of Frederick.

Frederick County Public Schools staff is providing live virtual instruction as an important part of the Full Virtual Model of instruction. In the event that students are unable to attend live virtual instruction via Google Meet, these sessions or part of these sessions will be video and audio recorded. The recorded session will be available for students who would like to review that content and instruction. We are balancing student privacy and the need for flexibility during this unprecedented pandemic.
Please review this parent Guide to help understand how Google Meet recordings will be used in instruction and security safeguards in place to protect student privacy.
Parent permission is required for teachers to record your students in the Google Meets. Teachers may begin recording beginning the week of September 8, 2002. Please let the school know whether or not your student has permission to be recorded in Google Meets. (Google Meet/Student Privacy and Security)
Students without permission will be asked to turn off their cameras and audio during the recorded portion of the lesson. Our goal is to get this additional resource online and available to students as soon as possible.
National Honor Society will mail application invitations to all eligible students during the week of October 5.
Juniors and seniors with cumulative weighted GPAs of 3.5 and higher will be invited to apply. Applications will be due Wednesday, October 21, and decisions will be sent to students no later than October 30. Please contact Mr. Burroughs (william.burroughs@fcps.org) or Mrs. McCarrick (andrea.mccarrick@fcps.org) with further questions.
If Parents/Students and Remote Staff require Technical Support for Chromebooks or Laptops, please send an e-mail to Nick.Ribecca@fcps.org to arrange for a time to meet here at FHS.
