Greetings from FHS –
Midterm is upon us! Friday October 2 will mark the middle of the first term. We will still be running a 2 hour early dismissal schedule so teachers have time to complete midterm grades. Teachers will not be available to students after 1:30 as they will be working on finalizing their grades for midterm. We will be mailing paper copies of interims along with Habits of Work scores to all families on Friday Oct 9th. You will see our virtual bell schedule below. Please note the synchronous times have not changed from a regular Friday schedule. Monday Sept 28th is also a day off from virtual learning so students do not have to sign in on Monday. Instruction will resume on Tuesday Sept 29th with our regular Tuesday bell schedule. I hope everyone enjoys their three day weekend!
Sincerely,
David Franceschina, Ed.D. Principal, FHS

Frederick County Public Schools staff is providing live virtual instruction as an important part of the Full Virtual Model of instruction. In the event that students are unable to attend live virtual instruction via Google Meet, these sessions or part of these sessions will be video and audio recorded. The recorded session will be available for students who would like to review that content and instruction. We are balancing student privacy and the need for flexibility during this unprecedented pandemic.
Please review this parent Guide to help understand how Google Meet recordings will be used in instruction and security safeguards in place to protect student privacy.
Parent permission is required for teachers to record your students in the Google Meets. Teachers may begin recording beginning the week of September 8, 2002. Please let the school know whether or not your student has permission to be recorded in Google Meets. (Google Meet/Student Privacy and Security)
Students without permission will be asked to turn off their cameras and audio during the recorded portion of the lesson. Our goal is to get this additional resource online and available to students as soon as possible.
National Honor Society will mail application invitations to all eligible students during the week of October 5.
Juniors and seniors with cumulative weighted GPAs of 3.5 and higher will be invited to apply. Applications will be due Wednesday, October 21, and decisions will be sent to students no later than October 30. Please contact Mr. Burroughs (william.burroughs@fcps.org) or Mrs. McCarrick (andrea.mccarrick@fcps.org) with further questions.
If Parents/Students and Remote Staff require Technical Support for Chromebooks or Laptops, please send an e-mail to Nick.Ribecca@fcps.org to arrange for a time to meet here at FHS.

Social Studies Student of the Week
What is your motivation? Some of our math teachers shared their motivational jam.
Mr. Bair: "Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows Mrs. Byrd: "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers or "Joy and Pain" by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock Mrs. Ptak: "Totem" by Zazie Mr. Heller: "Almost (Sweet Music)" by Hozier Mrs. Border: "Smile" by Matthew Shafer Ms. McGaughey: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
Sometimes your motivation is not song but the inspiration you find each day.
Ms. Arnold: I don't have a song but my motivation is knowing that education is a gift and should not be taken for granted. There are so many people in the world that desperately desire education but it is not available for them. My mom has experienced this first hand and never had the opportunity to get the education she desired. She taught me to value education at a very young age!
Check out our Motivational Jams and then find your own! Stay motivated - midterms are right around the corner.
Please reach out to your student's math teacher if you have any questions or concerns. You may also contact Leslie Byrd, math specialist, at leslie.byrd@fcps.org or at 240-397-9718 if you have any questions or concerns about your student's math progress.
