News from Principal Frank Vetter
The registration process for current WMS 6th and 7th graders has begun. Sixth and 7th grade students will received their registration letters on Monday, March 2, so please look for them when your students return home from school. The letter will have information about their recommended level for math and language arts and a place to rank order elective choices. We do the best we can to grant everyone their first elective choice, but we ask that students rank order at least four choices in case classes are full. Students going into 7th grade will receive one elective. Students entering 8th grade receive two. World language classes are high school courses, and grades, in these classes as well as credits earned, are recorded on a student’s high school transcript. Therefore, students desiring to study a world language should be prepared for high school course expectations. With that in mind, only students reading and writing above grade level in 6thth grade will be approved for world language study in 7th grade. Students who are not working at grade level in 7th grade should defer study of a world language until high school. Completed registration letters must be returned to a student’s social studies teacher by Monday, March 9.
Students being considered for placement in the Highly Able Learner program will be notified by mail during the first week in April.

Heart & Sole is Girls on the Run’s middle school program that meets the unique needs of girls in 6th-8th grade. The program considers the whole girl - body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection – in a positive, structured space where girls can learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy and strengthen connections. Running is incorporated into each lesson to encourage physical wellness and teach life skills such as team building, creating a support system, standing up for themselves and others and decision making. The girls prepare for a celebratory Girls on the Run 5K event at the end of the program. This non-competitive event fosters goal setting and a sense of confidence through accomplishment to last a lifetime. Visit www.gotrmidmd.org for more information or to register!!
