News from Principal Frank Vetter
Seminars was a new program created by teachers at WMS this year to give students opportunities to participate in a deeper study of topics of interest to them. One of the most popular seminars has been ProjectLit, run by Ms. Duncan, our media specialist, and Ms. Widener, our literacy specialist. Walkerville ProjectLit is a community of students as READERS and LEADERS that host monthly book clubs and participate in literacy based community service projects. ProjectLit book clubs read culturally relevant books to celebrate daily reading, empathy, and reading books where they see themselves in the characters and stories. On Thursday, some members of our group visited Walkersville ES and read to small groups of students. I want to commend the following students for sharing the joy of reading with our future students: Ella Carr, Lilianna Griffee, Hannah Koonce, Peyton Isemann, Shalom Sheraz, AnnMarie Baughman, Stella Franklin, Esther Odu, Alyvia Shew, Isabella Thompson, Samantha Maelson, Sophie Stillwell, Adrianna Stewart, Samantha Tekin, Emily Derrick, Alyssa Stears, and Amelia Ridgeway.
Save the date: We are having an Eighth Grade Dance on April 17, 6 to 8 p.m. More information will follow next week.
Finally, we want to congratulate our all district band students: Karla Burbano, Chloe Gaines, Samantha Leggieri, Melissa Hansen, Kaylin Duman, and Jacob McNiesh. These students are preparing to play a concert with other all-district students at GTJHS on February 8 at 4 pm.
We also have 3 chorus students participating in All County Music Festival. They are Lilianna Griffee, Ella Carr and Cora Jackson.
Please make certain that your child brings a fully charged Chromebook to school every day.
