News From Principal Frank Vetter
WMS is actively planning for next year. During the week of February 10, students in 6th and 7th grade will receive registration sheets with their levels for language arts and math. At that time, students will be able to select their elective choices for next year. More information will follow from the counseling department as approach the week of February 10.
This year, we started having our counselors move up with students so they work with the same group for all three years of middle school. If you have any questions about scheduling the following people may be helpful:
Current 6th grade (next year 7th grade) counselor: Susan Twilley (suzanne.twilley@fcps.org)
Current 7th grade (next year 8th grade) counselor: Caitie Schultheis (caitlin.schultheis@fcps.org)
Literacy Specialist: Tina Widener (christina.widener@fcps.org)
Math Specialist: Mike Bingham (michael.bingham@fcps.org)
Advanced Academics Specialist: Mark Elias (mark.elias@fcps.org)
If you have not yet received the announcement, all FCPS schools are closed for weekend activities due to the impending inclement weather. However, Frederick County Parks and Rec gyms will make their own decisions about closing.
Enjoy your three-day weekend!

From January 1 - January 31, WMS will be participating in Beanstack’s Third Annual Winter Reading Challenge, sponsored by Penguin Random House. Beanstack is a web and mobile app that tracks self-directed reading time and helps to build a culture of reading in school and at home. Beanstack is comparable to a "Fitbit for reading"
Through the Winter Reading Challenge, students and staff will log their time spent reading on the Beanstack site or app.
So specifically why are we participating?
1. To help build a culture of reading in our school and community.
2. Reading matters! It helps our students increase their vocabulary and do better on standardized tests.
3. Winning schools will get new books for classroom libraries and an author visit from the author, Max Brailler of
"The Last Kids on Earth" series.
So login today using the WMS Media webpage and Beanstack icon or mobile app and start recording your minutes today!
The WMS Science department is excited to announce that our school has been awarded $1,300 from the MD Energy Savers program! WMS requested the third most energy-saving kits of all participating schools, with a total of 204 families registering for a kit. Thank you so much to all families who took the time to support our school!
