The FCPS Community Bulletin Board for March 18 is ready!
Seven employees have been recognized through the 2024 Support Employee of the Year program.
This award celebrates employees who exemplify service and excellence to the FCPS community.
The exemplary employees are:
Administrative Support Employee of the Year: Robin Hemp, Tuscarora High
Food Service Support Employee of the Year: Tina Ford, Tuscarora High
School-based Food Service Employee of the Year: Esther Snyder, Middletown High
Operations Support Employee of the Year: Michael Bowles, Urbana High
School Support Employee of the Year: Brandon Brewbaker, Frederick High
Special Education Support Employee of the Year: Cheryl Desmond, Crestwood Middle
Technical Support Employee of the Year: Philip Hannaby, User Support Specialist, New Market Middle
Transportation Support Employee of the Year: Shelly Fraley, Bus Driver, who serves the Walkersville High, Middle, and Elementary communities
From this list of seven, one overall Support Employee of the Year will be announced at the May 15 Board of Education meeting when the entire group is honored. The overall winner will receive a cash award, a personal day off, special trophy and Board of Education pin. All category winners will receive trophies and certificates.

The Frederick High boys basketball team won the Class 4A state championship with a 74-49 victory over Walt Whitman High on Saturday at the University of Maryland.
This is Frederick High's seventh all-time boys basketball state championship and first since 1982.
FCPS joined Special Olympics Maryland to pledge to spread the word about inclusion on March 6, which is the Global Day of Inclusion. In FCPS, we are committed to celebrating every student, every day, regardless of differences.
On March 6, many FCPS staff members wore t-shirts to commemorate the day. Here are just a few of the highlights.

FCPS student leaders took part in the Maryland Association of Student Councils convention from February 28-March 1 in Ocean City. It was a great opportunity for students to network, participate in student-led workshops, and so much more!
Congratulations to Chase Camuti, the winner of the 2024 Frederick County Spelling Bee! The champion word was "rubicon". Chase, a 5th grader at Glade Elementary School, will be representing Frederick County at the nationally televised Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May 2024.
The runner-up was Nazaha Huda, a 5th grader at Hillcrest Elementary School.
In our latest episode of Essential, we feature Lewistown Elementary resident substitute Adriane Brooks, who was the 2023 FCPS Substitute Teacher of the Year. You can learn more about the role of a resident substitute, her close ties to the Lewistown Elementary community, and the ways she supports the changing needs of her school community.
In our latest edition of FCPS Impact, we feature Camila Gonzalez, a senior who attends Urbana High School and the FCPS Career and Technology Center.
Camila earned the gold award in health science from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit that identifies, inspires, prepares and positions leaders in the classroom, community and workforce. The foundation's Youth Awards honor high school seniors who excel in the classroom and community.
We surprised Camila with an FCPS Impact Award in her Career and Technology Center Biomedical Science classroom.
Last month, Walkersville High School earned the Frederick County Academic Tournament championship. The finals match -- between Walkersville, Gov. Thomas Johnson High, and Urbana -- was recorded.
FCPS is excited to host the 31st Annual Career and Tech Fair from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at Frederick High School. This event is a cornerstone of efforts to highlight Career and Technical Education in FCPS.
This year, FCPS is excited to provide the community an opportunity to learn about CTE throughout the county while cheering on students at the fair taking part in competitions. FCPS Career Coaches from all middle and high schools will be in attendance to showcase CTE student opportunities.
Doors open at 4:45 p.m. March 19 at Frederick High, located at 650 Carroll Parkway in Frederick.
Local food trucks will be available for guests to enjoy while they attend the fair. One of our CTE sponsors, Tire World, will be attending and helping promote CTE.
Additionally, high school CTE teachers, partners, and organizations will share details about CTE pathways and extracurricular opportunities, including Future Business Leaders of America, FFA, SkillsUSA, FCPS Robotics Clubs and ACE Mentoring. Tuscarora High School is hosting the 2004 Elementary Science and Social Studies Fairs and the Secondary Science and Engineering Fair on March 23!
The high school grand prize winner and runner up will attend the International Science Fair in Los Angeles.
Students will be on hand to present their projects.
A free STEM Showcase, with hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activities is also open to the public from 9:00-11:30 a.m. The STEM Showcase is open to students of all grade levels.
March is Youth Art Month! To celebrate, the annual FCPS Youth Art Month student art exhibit will be hosted at The Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick.
When: Saturday, March 2 through Monday, March 25
Where: The Delaplaine Arts Center, 40 S. Carroll St., Frederick
Delaplaine Center hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays
Admission: Free
Parking: The Delaplaine Center is located next to the East All Saints Parking Garage. The garage’s address is 125 East All Saints St., Frederick. Metered parking is also nearby.
What exhibit viewers will find: Every FCPS art teacher submitted three outstanding student art pieces for the exhibit, which will include more than 400 imaginative two and three-dimensional student creations. The exhibit highlights exceptional student artists and is a testament to the always creative FCPS art teachers.
While at the Delaplaine: To coincide with the student art exhibit, the Delaplaine coordinates an FCPS faculty art exhibit on the second floor. Be sure to check it out!

The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future is a 10 year, multi-billion dollar investment in public education that will occur over three key phases.

Plenty of opportunities this spring to see students shine on stage!
FCPS will offer World Language Summer Camps again this June at Parkway Elementary.
Registration is open! Two daily meals will be available for students who attend the camps. If parents wish for their students to participate, a free breakfast and lunch will be available each day.
The registration deadline is April 30.

FCPS is seeking parents/guardians to serve on a textbook review committee to evaluate instructional resources for the new high school Women’s History elective course. The committee, which consists of parents, teachers, and Central Office leaders, reviews multiple textbooks and makes recommendations for adoption by the district. Over the course of three to four meetings, the committee will receive textbook information and access, review the evaluation rubric, work independently to review each text, then come together as a committee to share findings and recommendations. If interested, please submit this form by March 20, 2024. FCPS staff will contact those interested by March 22, 2024. Meeting dates are tentatively scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on the following dates:
