Tuscarora High students had the opportunity to visit Washington to meet with elected officials and discuss their experiences as Special Olympics athletes.
Tuscarora High was the first high school in Frederick County to earn Unified Champion School status by the Special Olympics.

Urbana High student athlete Ava Duerr is the first recipient of the Ella Bresee Memorial Scholarship. Ella was a proud and beloved member of the Urbana basketball community. She courageously battled Medulloblastoma.
The scholarship is a way to honor and remember the special person Ella was. It is awarded to a member of the Urbana girls basketball team who demonstrates the positive qualities that made Ella such a force.
Ava is well known for being positive, loyal, and a connector of people. In addition to being a leader on the girls basketball team, Ava was also a standout on the inaugural Urbana girls flag football team.
Congratulations to Linganore High for earning a second consecutive duals wrestling title in the Class 3A classification! The team is pictured above.
FCPS is proud to announce that 41 teachers achieved National Board Certification for the first time this year. Eight other teachers were recertified.
These educators are a shining example of how to best support the needs of every student, every day!

To pay tribute to Black African American History Month, we are sharing the stories of individuals in our community who have made significant contributions to the art community.
A retired elementary art teacher for Frederick County Public Schools, Rose Chaney also served as supervisory teacher for student teachers, an orientation teacher for newly hired art teachers and art curriculum consultant for the Maryland School for the Deaf. She was employed with FCPS for 34 years. Chaney graduated from Morgan State University with over 30 graduate credits before she went on to teach art.
Chaney is known in Frederick County for her extensive charitable work within the community. For over 30 years she has been a member of the Frederick Club of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is a charter member of the Chi Theta Omega Chapter in Frederick. She is also a charter and current board member of the African American Resources Cultural and Heritage Society of Frederick County (AARCH).

The 2023 Tressler recipient is Suzanne Dashiell Elder from Urbana High School
We're sure you know an FCPS teacher who is making a significant impact on young people. It is time to nominate that individual for the Charles E. Tressler Distinguished Teacher Award.
A panel of FCPS judges will screen the nominations and select finalists before forwarding materials to Hood College. We welcome nominations from current and former students, teachers and support staff, parents, community members, administrators, and supervisors. Hood College will recognize the winner this spring. Complete eligibility, nomination criteria, process, and selection guidelines are located online at www.fcps.org/awards. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 15, 2024. The Board of Education of Frederick County is looking forward to visiting the Catoctin Feeder Pattern for a listening session. All members of the community are welcome!

Where: Catoctin High School Media Center, 14745 Sabillasville Road, Thurmont
The informal structure of a community listening session provides an opportunity for the community to highlight areas of celebration and areas of advocacy or concern to the Board, and allows for dialogue and communication between the Board and the community.
The dialogue can be specific to the Catoctin feeder or across all FCPS communities.
Frederick County Public Schools is excited to announce the Elementary and Secondary Science and Engineering Fair and the Elementary Social Studies Fair will take place on Saturday, March 23 at Tuscarora High School.

Out-of-district applications will be accepted by the Department of Student Services office from February 1 to March 1, 2024.
Parents or guardians of students in grades kindergarten-12 who wish to request an out-of-district transfer for the 2024-2025 school year must apply by completing the application. Out of district approvals are only good for one year, so all students/families MUST REAPPLY between February 1 and March 1, 2024.
Additional information about the out of district process is outlined in FCPS Regulation 400-15. The FCPS list of closed schools for the 2024-2025 school year can be found here.
Families will be notified of the decision regarding your out of district request by April 1, 2024. If you have questions, you may contact the Pupil Personnel Worker (PPW) assigned to your child’s school.

FCPS will offer World Language Summer Camps again this June at Parkway Elementary.
Registration is open! Two daily meals will be available for students who attend the camps. If parents wish for their students to participate, a free breakfast and lunch will be available each day.
The registration deadline is April 30.

Career & Technology Center Shadow Requests Close February 20th!
Shadowing is currently open to students in grades 9-11 and is required in order to apply for the 2024-2025 school year. Students may shadow and apply to up to two programs.
The last day to sign up to shadow a program at the Career & Technology Center is
February 20, 2024.
