During the final week of school, Gov. Thomas Johnson High student Payton Buckley held the Special Olympics torch and jogged alongside her friends and classmates.
She was smiling while she ran – a truly joyous moment! After all, she was being cheered on and supported by the TJ community.
During the last month, I have been happy to see so many student smiles. While this year has not been easy, we have definitely benefited from having most everyone together. Students made memories that will last a lifetime.
At high school graduations, I congratulated smiling students wearing caps and gowns. They have completed their time with us and were appreciative they could walk across the stage with friends, family, teachers and support staff present.
At Waverley Elementary, members of the school chorus smiled as they sang together during a joyous farewell celebration for a school building that served students and the community for 52 years. They will move into their new home this fall.
At Brunswick Elementary, students smiled and laughed as they shoveled dirt from the ground at a groundbreaking ceremony. A replacement Brunswick Elementary is in the process of being built and scheduled to open in Fall 2023.
This year, I’ve witnessed students smiling as they ate lunch with their friends, students smiling as they interacted with their teachers, and students smiling as they took part in the extracurricular activities they love.
Suffice to say, student smiles were not hard to find during my visits.
I would like to thank every FCPS employee for making those smiles possible. Our staff worked so hard this year, and I am truly grateful for all they did for students.
At FCPS, we are committed to continuous improvement. We are always looking for ways to better support our students and the community we serve. As we have learned time and again, we are truly better together. The smiles are proof.
I hope everyone has a safe and restful summer.
Thanks,
Mike
Fun for all during the last day of school at Ballenger Creek Elementary.
