When Brunswick Elementary staff asked students what they would like to see in their new school, kindergartners suggested we include a bench big enough for every member of their class to sit on together.
In the fall of 2023, Brunswick Elementary students will enter a new school building being built next to the existing school. Unfortunately, there’s not a bench big enough for all kindergarten students, but I loved the sentiment.
Brunswick Elementary kindergarten students are just starting their educational journeys with us, and they will keep growing and learning together. I encourage parents and guardians to enjoy every moment of growth. Before you know it, they will be walking across the stage as high school graduates, in some cases sitting next to peers who they first met in pre-k or kindergarten.
May is an exciting month and a time of transition for many of our students. High school graduations begin next week and will continue through May 27. I look forward to celebrating the FCPS Class of 2022, and I want to congratulate the graduates for this significant milestone in their lives. The full graduation schedule is posted online, and we will be livestreaming the ceremonies.
While our twelfth grade students are completing their final days with us, we are providing many growth opportunities for our students who will be returning next year.
As an example, FCPS hosted the inaugural Central Maryland Conference Student Athlete Leadership Conference on Thursday. Each Frederick County and Washington County public high school had the opportunity to invite four students who have shown excellent character and dedication. They took part in team-building activities and discussions focused on building leadership capacity.
This event set an excellent benchmark for future student athlete leadership opportunities, as students continue learning and growing together.
Enjoy your weekend,
Mike
