Believe it or not, high school seniors will be celebrating their graduations in just two months. We are so proud of the FCPS Class of 2022 for showing perseverance and dedication throughout their time with us.
This year, high school graduation ceremonies will be held at Knott Arena at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg. Knott Arena is our traditional location for graduation ceremonies, and we are excited to return. The full graduation schedule is posted online.
Knott Arena provides ample space for guests, a spacious area on the floor for graduates, and a large stage for Class of 2022 members to proudly walk across.
Once again this year, we will be livestreaming graduation ceremonies on our FCPSMaryland YouTube page. This was a popular feature last year, with nearly 40,000 total views. I can understand why. No matter where friends and family were, they could watch graduates walk across the stage.
Before the ceremonies, we will share more details with you about how you can watch online. Our high schools will share more details about their ceremonies via FindOutFirst.
The FCPS Public Affairs team is planning spotlight features for the Class of 2022. Be on the lookout for them on FCPS social media in May.
Holding graduation ceremonies at Knott Arena is a return to normalcy for us. Due to the pandemic, this is the first time graduations have been held at Mount St. Mary’s in three years.
We continue to see other positive signs as well. Our five-day average student attendance rate is holding steady at nearly 92 percent. COVID-19 positive cases reported to us continue to be low. Last week, 48 positive COVID-19 cases were reported to FCPS. This figure is similar to the positive cases reported during the last three weeks. A reminder that our Health Metrics Dashboard is updated daily Monday through Friday.
I am hopeful these positive trends will continue, and I look forward to greeting graduates in just a few months.
Have a great weekend!
Mike Markoe,
FCPS Interim Superintendent
