A Message from Dr. Terry Alban
Graduation season is here! I was honored to join SUCCESS Program and Rock Creek School graduates for their commencement ceremonies this week. I am thrilled we are able to recognize the Class of 2021 with in-person graduations this year.
Late spring is always a transitional and exciting time for students and staff as we conduct graduation ceremonies, celebrate the hard work of staff and students, and prepare for the 2021-22 school year.
A reminder: The last day of instruction for all students is Thursday, June 17. The last day for teachers is Friday, June 18.
This will be another busy summer throughout Frederick County Public Schools. We are pleased to offer comprehensive summer programs for students at all levels. This year, we introduce the Elevate Academy, a 20-day summer program designed to engage students throughout FCPS as we address interrupted instruction created by the COVID-19 pandemic. We will be sharing more details about all of our summer programs at the next Board of Education meeting on May 26.
FCPS has also announced our summer operational hours for offices. We received feedback throughout the pandemic about the convenience of virtual appointments and meetings. Therefore, FCPS will be offering both walk-in and virtual services for families from June 28-July 29. More information about summer family services is available here.
I know there are many questions about the 2021-22 school year! FCPS will offer in-person learning for all students five days per week! We will also offer a virtual option for families who choose it. Today, FCPS schools are sending out a Find Out First message requesting families provide a decision about whether students will attend school next year in person or enroll in the newly created FCPS Virtual Program. The response is the official decision for the 2021-22 school year. Please complete one form per child. This information is essential to us for scheduling and staffing decisions. We appreciate your timely response!
