Subject: Important Updates for the Upcoming School Year
Dear MVM Community,
As we eagerly anticipate the start of the new school year, we want to provide you with crucial updates as we transition from our Dill Ave location to our recently acquired facility.
Alternative Location to Start the School Year:
On Monday, August 7, 2023, the MVM Governing Council (GC) approved to start the school year at an alternative location, 7215 Corporate Court, Frederick, MD 21703, in the same building as our sister school, Carroll Creek Montessori (CCM).
Please note that this decision is pending approval of the lease terms by Monocacy Montessori Communities, Inc. (MMCI), the non-profit corporation overseeing MVM and CCM charter schools. We are also awaiting final approval from Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS). If any changes occur, we will promptly notify you.
Adjusted School Day Times:
The GC also voted to modify the start time and end time of our school day while at our temporary location as follows:
All Students (except Pre-K3)
Monday - Thursday: 8:30 am - 3:15 pm
Fridays: 8:30 am - 2:15 pm
Pre-K3
Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 11:00 am
This adjustment is necessary to accommodate two carlines (MVM and CCM) at the same building. Our traditional timings will be reinstated once we relocate to our permanent facility.
Carline:
A detailed map will be shared soon. Times for the MVM Carline are as follows:
8:15 am – Carline begins
8:30 am – Carline ends (staff will guide late arriving families to park and enter the building)
3:10 pm – Dismissal begins
3:30 pm – Dismissal ends (staff will guide late arriving families to park and enter the building)
There are separate entrances for each school; MVM families will only use the carline entrance.
Before/After Care:
Details from MMCI are expected by the end of this week.
Meet Your Teacher:
MVM has a scheduled community picnic on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Monocacy Village Park (409 Delaware Rd, Frederick, MD 21701). Teachers will be at the picnic from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm to meet with students and to help prepare them for the transitions for the upcoming school year.
School Supplies Drop Off:
There will be no early drop-off date for school supplies. These can be included in backpacks for the first few days of school. Also note, we may adjust who needs to bring in shared supplies (i.e. tissues, paper towels, wipes, etc.) to the alternative location. More details will be communicated.
Background:
While we had initially aimed to commence the school year in our new building on Day 1, our current situation has evolved. The renovations at 64 Thomas Johnson Drive are ongoing, with Phase 1 occupancy projected for October/November 2023. Given the feedback from FCPS and families regarding long-term virtual options, parent volunteers supporting MMCI explored several local options that could be quickly made ready. Among the more than two dozen sites evaluated, the CCM building emerged as the recommended choice. With 27,000 sq. feet of space, it will accommodate all of our students, and FCPS services can be quickly set up, which includes food services, health services, internet access, and security.
Volunteers:
Please complete your volunteer training at: FCPS Volunteer Center. This is required every year through FCPS. We will need volunteers more than ever this year. Please don’t delay; it can take a few days from completing the training requirements before it is approved by the school.
We understand that these changes may disrupt routines and introduce uncertainties. Every decision made impacts our entire community. We welcome your concerns and encourage you to share them with the GC. Your grace, understanding, and respect during this transitional phase are greatly appreciated.
Kindly,
Bob Weiland
GC Chair
