Dear Monocacy Valley Montessori Community,
I hope that your summer is going well.
I am excited to announce that we have successfully secured the funding for the new building for our school and will close the 2nd week of July. This significant milestone is a testament to the unwavering dedication and support of our entire school community, especially the MMCI BOT and Facilities Teams.
Phase 1 construction will begin immediately following the closing. While we anticipate the completion of the required phase 1 construction to occupy the new building near the beginning of the school year, there is a strong possibility that the necessary preparations may not be finished in time for the start of classes. It is essential for us to address the need for an alternative location to start the school year.
The GC is actively exploring all available options to secure another temporary location to start the school year, which would allow us in-person learning. In the event that this does not come to fruition, we will need to consider virtual instruction. In June, the Governing Council (GC) voted to approve the start of our upcoming school year virtually up until September 12th. We know this is not ideal; the vote was necessary to have a plan in place to finalize our financing for the new building. Please understand that this decision has not been taken lightly, and we are committed to providing you with updates as soon as more information becomes available.
As soon as areas are deemed safe and ready for occupancy, we will begin moving classrooms into the new space.
Volunteers are currently working to move our materials and furniture out of Dill Ave and can use more help. Sign up to help using this link. Volunteer help will be needed to move into our new facility. Please stay tuned for further updates in the coming weeks. These will continue to be available from our GC meetings, the next of which is on July 5, 2023, at 6:30 pm, and email communication.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this process. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for your continued support and cooperation throughout this journey. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and resilient community, and I am confident that together we will overcome any challenges that may arise.
Kindly,
Bob Weiland
