FCPS provides multiple ways for employees to check work status on a snow day. If inclement weather or other factors interfere with your usual method for checking your work status, the list below will prepare you to check other sources.
1) www.fcps.org Look for inclement-weather closing notices on the home page with a link to details about the color code for staff.
2) Facebook and Twitter These posts and texts are activated via FindOutFirst and link to work status details.
3) Text messages Via FindOutFirst/Employee News texts go to staff who have added mobile phone number, carrier and verification code THIS SCHOOL YEAR. Numbers entered prior to this school year are no longer in the system. Though texts have basic closing information, there is not space for work details; when you get a text, you should also check fcps.org, Facebook or email for work status details.
4) Email from FindOutFirst/Employee News
5) Outlook work email
6) Local Comcast cable channel 18
7) Other TV and radio stations Although FCPS notifies numerous radio and TV stations of school closing status, we can't guarantee the accuracy or detail of their messaging, particularly for work status. Please be aware there is a Frederick County Public Schools in Virginia, and listen carefully if you hear a media reference to FCPS (which could also be a reference to Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia).
FCPS has discontinued the employees-only snow hotline due to technology changes and lack of use.
Make sure you know how a liberal leave policy affects you; in most cases it means employees scheduled to work but unable to travel due to the weather may use personal or annual leave after reporting to their supervisor. Consult your negotiated agreement, supervisor or Regulation 400-02 for details.
