April 26, 2017 Dear Colleagues, There have been several disturbing incidents involving schools across the nation recently. Some have involved threats and even attacks. We work hard in Frederick County to keep our schools and students safe. For example, our principals recently reviewed every school’s security and emergency procedures. But we can always do more to reinforce the importance of safety.
It is the responsibility of every FCPS employee to be prepared and to be proactive in protecting our schools. I ask you to always be watchful and attentive of your surroundings. Please remember that security comes before convenience – always.
With that in mind, I am sharing and reiterating some key points from our school security regulation (reg. 200-29, http://coldfusion02.fcps.org/legal/200-29.pdf). The regulation explains how we provide every student a safe learning environment. I ask and expect every FCPS employee to carefully follow the procedures outlined in that regulation – we need to practice these commonsense safety steps every day.
