Dear CTC Community,
The safety and well-being of students and staff is a top priority for Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS). This year, school administrators are
collaborating with our law enforcement partners to conduct K9 sweeps at FCPS properties. Specially trained teams will be used to detect substances
and/or items that are not permitted on school property. This proactive measure is another means to help ensure a safe environment for our schools.
On December 14, 2023, the Career and Technology Center (CTC) was visited by these teams. The FCPS protocol “HOLD” was utilized during the
time the K9 teams from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) and Frederick Police Department (FPD) were onsite.
During a HOLD status, students and staff clear the hallways and remain in the room or area until the “All Clear” is announced. Business is conducted as usual.
Today, canine sweeps were conducted at CTC because of the availability of the FCSO and FPD resources. We plan to conduct these operations at all the high schools,
including the FCPS Career & Technology Center. We will schedule the other operations as our law enforcement partners’ resources are available.
We wanted to make you aware of this proactive step being taken, which is not being undertaken due to a credible or existing threat to any school community.
Sincerely,
Michael Concepcion - Principal
