Wolverines,
This morning, WKMS students and staff, in conjunction with our School Resource Officer from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, practiced our Avoid, Deny, and Defend (ADD) drill. As previously shared, in the event that there would be an active assailant in WKMS, we would use the ADD protocol.
Avoid – Rapidly move away from the danger.
Deny – Barricade the classroom door, move to the safe area of the room, and identify secondary exits in order to Avoid.
Defend – Identify non-traditional weapons to defend while continuing to find opportunities to Avoid and Deny.
The safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors is our priority. Our school regularly participates in a variety of drills to ensure that our students and staff are prepared for a wide range of emergency situations. We will continue to practice various drills and procedures throughout the entirety of the school year. I would encourage you to talk to your child(ren) about today’s drill and the steps that they can take to ensure that WKMS remains a safe place for our entire school community.
Thank you for joining us in collaboratively working together to keep our school safe.
Be Your Best, Brian P. Vasquenza
Principal
