PSAT/NMSQT REGISTRATION ENDS THIS FRIDAY, 9/11
PSAT/NMSQT REGISTRATION ENDS
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11
(Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)
Exam Date: Wednesday, October 14
8 AM to approximately 12:15 PM
(Students report to the building by 7:30 AM)
Limited Seats Available
Who Can Take the PSAT
The PSAT/NMSQT is available to 9, 10, and 11 grade students. There is
limited seating
due to safety and staffing. Please note that the test includes math content from courses through Algebra 2, which 9 and 10 graders may not have yet taken.
Why Take the PSAT
The PSAT acts as a precursor to the SAT as the two tests largely mirror each other in content and structure. The PSAT has fewer questions than the SAT. In part because of the number of test takers OHS can accommodate, we recommend that current 10 and 11 graders who plan to take the SAT take the PSAT as part of their preparation for the SAT. NOTE: for 11th graders only PSAT scores determine students' eligibility to apply for National Merit scholarships.
Safety
We want to ensure the safety and health of all students/staff, and comply with social distancing guidelines. For this reason,
we will not be able to provide supplies
. Each student MUST bring a calculator, pencil and eraser. Additionally,
students must wear a mask
at all times. Testing areas will be disinfected, and plans are being developed to minimize risks.
Registration
Use the following link to register:
www.TotalRegistration.net/PSAT/210664
. The site will be open on Thursday, August 27, at 7 AM and closes on Friday, September 11, at 11:59 PM.
It is important to register and pay as soon as possible
. When registering, be sure to indicate whether transportation (FCPS bus) will be needed.
We are still in the process of determining the number of students we can accommodate
based on social distancing guidelines and staffing
. Once that number is determined, we will choose students based on the order of registration. Students exceeding that number will be placed on a wait list. 11 graders will be given priority due to the necessity of taking the test in that year for NMSQT eligibility.
Important Tips for Registration
Before registering for the test, make sure that you have the following handy:
A credit or debit card for payment
Student ID number
Student FCPS e-mail address
Directions for each question are explicitly outlined; please refer to the "help" areas for information.
Questions are included for students to indicate that they have accommodations as well as for free/reduced lunch students to indicate their status for payment.
Fee & Payment
The test
fee is $18
.
Payments must be received via Total Registration by September 11.
Those students whose payment is not received by September 14 will be removed from the test roster; their spot will be given to a student on the wait list. Due to limited seating,
late payments will not be accepted.
If the PSAT is cancelled, payments will be refunded. Additionally, if a student does not take the test on test day, a refund will need to be requested by October 20.
Students who are free/reduced lunch status will not be required to pay. (If you are not classified as free/reduced lunch status, but believe you may qualify, please contact Sherri Krivos at
Sherri.Krivos@fcps.org
for a copy of the FARMS registration.)
