Students and staff of Lewistown Elementary participated in a successful Avoid, Deny, Defend Drill today.
With this drill, teachers assess the situation and decide either to lockdown or exit the building with their group of students. Today teachers and students in grades K-4 met at a pre-determined spot outside, attendance was taken, and everyone returned to the building. Students in grade 5 remained in the building in a lockdown mode. The drill lasted approximately 5 minutes. We are committed to the implementation of best practices related to school safety and crisis prevention. It is important to recognize that this type of drill is just one specific component of our comprehensive crisis preparedness plan.
