To the Lewistown Elementary community,
We wanted to update you today about two separate incidents that took place in our school building and led to an increased police and fire & rescue presence at our building today.
This morning, a student threw a rock that shattered an outdoor window of a first grade classroom. No students were present inside the classroom at the time the rock was thrown. Nobody was injured. The sound of crashing glass was heard in many school classrooms. This led to our school briefly being placed on secure status, which means students return to the inside of the building and conduct business as usual. The outside doors are locked. All students and staff were accounted for.
Destruction of school property is unacceptable behavior and can lead to significant disciplinary action.
Unrelated to the broken glass, a student required medical attention and was transported to the hospital. During that time, the school was briefly placed on a hold status. In a hold status, hallways are cleared and individuals remain in the room or area until an all-clear is announced.
We wanted to make you aware of what happened in case students inquire. We realize the sound of crashing glass can be concerning to students. Our teachers made sure students were comforted. Additionally, our school counselor was on hand to provide any additional supports needed.
Thank you,
Belinda Fockler
Principal
