Dear New Market Elementary School Students and Families,
I am honored to return to Frederick County Public Schools and New Market Elementary School as your new principal. I know New Market to be an amazing school with outstanding teachers and staff, great students, and an active and involved parent community. Those are three very important elements for a positive, supportive, and enriching educational experience for students - and I am excited to join the team beginning July 1, 2022.
First, I'd like to offer my thanks to Mr. Bowser for his dedication and leadership at New Market over the last six years! I have had the opportunity to work in several schools previously with Mr. Bowser, as well as with Mrs. McGaha, and I know them both to be outstanding educators and people. I am so appreciative of the great work they and the staff have done and look forward to building on to the many successes they have achieved.
A little about me. My wife and I live just up route 144 near Frederick. We have three children. Our two boys have graduated from Oakdale High School, and our daughter attends there as a rising 10th grader. I enjoy spending time with my family, I'm an avid sports fan, play a couple of musical instruments, love the outdoors, and try (when I can) to play golf- that still needs some work! My educational career includes over twenty years in Frederick County Public Schools as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, central office roles here, as well as in Fairfax, Virginia, and Superintendent in neighboring Carroll County. I actively pursued returning to a principal role at this point in my career, as I have missed working directly with students, teachers, and families on a daily basis.
As principal, I am excited about helping to lead and support a safe, healthy, collaborative, engaged, and caring environment - where all students can experience academic and social/emotional success, learn and grow, and have fun along the way!
I am appreciative that our P.T.A. will be hosting an informal "meet and greet" on July 14, 2022 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in our cafeteria. All are welcome to stop by and say hello. We certainly recognize how busy everyone's summer is, so there will be other opportunities for us to connect, including an open house later in the summer. Be on the lookout for future information regarding dates and times.
All the best for a great summer and I look forward to meeting everyone soon.
Sincerely,
Steve Lockard
Principal
