Dear CES Families,
A more formal newsletter will be sent out on Friday but we wanted to share a few items with you now. Please review the following three items. Thank you!
Assessment Information: As we transition students to learning online, we must also transition how we assess that learning. In addition to the formative assessments that students will be given from their classroom teacher, FCPS will also administer the Performance Series assessment at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. To get started this first quarter, students in grades 1-5 will be assessed in the area of math and students in grades 3-5 will be assessed in the area of language arts. This will allow schools to ascertain a students’ current level of performance and will allow schools to monitor growth. The Performance Series assessment is an entirely web-based adaptive assessment. Based on the students’ responses, the assessment will provide questions that are more or less difficult until it can accurately report the students’ performance level. This will provide school staff information on student proficiency in reading and mathematics that will help drive personalized instruction and measure student progress. We highly encourage you to allow your child to complete these assessments independently (without any guidance from parents or a caregiver). It is important that we are provided with accurate data of your child’s strengths and needs. The classroom teacher will soon communicate when/how these assessments will occur within the virtual platform.
Yearbooks: Our yearbook printing company (Lifetouch) has not yet sent us last year’s yearbooks. As soon as we have them available to distribute, we will make arrangements to do so.
Absence Notes: If your child is unable to access school instruction due to an illness, appointment, family situation, etc. please email your absence note to CES.attendance@fcps.org. This email system will allow us to track your child’s attendance appropriately and mark the absence in our system as excused. You may copy the teacher on the email as well.
