In an effort to gauge students’ current level of performance in English and mathematics, FCPS will administer the Performance Series assessment to 9th and 10th grade students at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. Students in English 9, English 10, Algebra, and Geometry classes will take these tests.
The Performance Series assessment is an entirely web-based adaptive assessment. Based on the student's responses, the assessment will provide questions that are more or less difficult until it can accurately report the student's performance level. This will provide school staff with information on student proficiency in reading and mathematics that will help drive personalized instruction and measure student progress.
Most CHS students in English 9 or English 10 classes have already completed the assessment. Students in Algebra and Geometry will take the mathematics assessment this week. Please note that these tests are for informational purposes only – they are not graded and their scores are not reflected in courses grades or on report cards. Students are encouraged to do their best on these tests in order for school staff to obtain accurate information about students’ present levels and academic needs.
