Solar Eclipse Community Message
Monday, April 8, we will experience a partial solar eclipse with maximum solar coverage around the time of our dismissal. Since the eclipse will occur around our school dismissal time, staff, students and families should practice eclipse safety while outdoors. Families with walkers will need to connect with their student(s) immediately upon dismissal and leave school property in a safe and expedited manner.
Students and staff who have solar eclipse glasses will be permitted to wear these as they exit the school building on Monday, April 8; solar eclipse glasses are not provided by Brunswick Elementary School or Frederick County Public Schools.
It is imperative that students and families understand the dangers of looking directly at the eclipse without the proper eye protection; as it could cause permanent damage to the eyes.
Please refer to the information provided by FCPS for further details.
It is important that all students, staff, and community members know that there are important safety considerations for viewing an eclipse, as it is not safe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection.
Below are additional resources that highlight the importance of eye safety during the eclipse.

Solar Eclipse Safety (NASA)
ESSL Video About Eye Protection for Eclipse Viewing (ESSL)
FCPS is asking our community to join us in reminding students about the importance of these safety precautions during the afternoon of April 8.
If families are participating in eclipse activities with their children, these will be considered excused absences.
