In collaboration with the Frederick County Health Department, and as recommended by the Return to Play subcommittee and approved by leadership, Frederick County Public Schools will resume winter sports on Monday, January 25. One week of traditional practices and intrasquad scrimmages will be followed by a two-week competition season that will run from Monday, February 1 -- Friday, February 12. Per MPSSAA guidelines, fall sports are scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 13.
As previously announced, and in order to provide the best opportunity for the winter competition season to be successful, spectators will not be permitted to attend athletic events, and schools will livestream events via YouTube. Face coverings will be worn by basketball players and cheerleaders during basketball games as well as by students competing in Unified Bocce matches. Student-athletes in all other winter sports will wear masks during inside practices (with the exception of swimmers and divers in the water), when not socially distanced outside, and on the sidelines/bench area during competitions. All officials and game management staff will be required to wear face coverings.
FCPS has remained committed to providing our student-athletes with the opportunity to compete again. Although the winter competition season will be short, we are excited that our student-athletes will be able to put on their uniform and represent their school.
