Voluntary Summer Conditioning and Re-Acclimatization Activities Set to Begin on Monday, July 20, 2020
Tuesday, July 14, 2020
In collaboration with the Frederick County Health Department, the FCPS COVID-19 Return to Play Committee has finalized their initial (July 20, 2020 to August 12, 2020) FCPS COVID-19: Return to Play Summer Guidelines for a safe, gradual and responsible return to voluntary out-of-season summer conditioning and re-acclimatization activities.
All non sport-specific conditioning and re-acclimatization activities will be held outside during designated lower heat and humidity timeframes and will be conducted in pods of 10-15 students, taking into consideration all COVID-19 precautionary measures.
In addition to the requirement of an Updated Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (sports physical), students and parents must carefully review and sign the FCPS COVID-19 Parent-Student-Athlete Participation Acknowledgement Statement form. Students will be required to submit this form when checking in with the school’s Certified Athletic Trainer before their first summer conditioning and re-acclimatization session.
Students should contact their head coach prior to Monday, July 20, 2020 to confirm their team’s specific conditioning and re-acclimation session dates/times. Additionally, both students and parents are required to review the FCPS COVID-19: Return to Play Summer Guidelines before participating. All FCPS coaches have received training on these guidelines, and it is a systemic expectation that these directives are followed.
The FCPS Return to Play Committee will continue to meet regularly with the goal of continuing and expanding upon the gradual, responsible and safe return to interscholastic athletics.
