It's been a challenging year for everyone. As we consider how students are dealing with these challenges, we know that some are experiencing fear, anger, sadness, neglect, or even abuse. How do caring adults respond to students' emotional traumas?
In Dr. Lori Desautels and Michael McKnight's book Eyes Are Never Quiet, the authors suggest that "Instead of asking ourselves, "What is wrong with these young people?" we need to rephrase the question and ask, "What happened to these young people?"
Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban cordially invites the public to her 2020 Summer Book Club for a deep dive into the topics of students' behavior and discipline and to explore how we, as a caring community, can be more effective in supporting students' healthy development.
Authors Desautels and McKnight will lead a group discussion on this subject as they introduce their book to our participants via live video chat on Thursday, July 2!
"This book is an amazing tool for anyone who wants to live or work in a community that raises healthy and resilient children," writes one reviewer.
Space is limited in the July 2 video chat. Please RSVP by Wednesday, July 1 to reserve your spot: www.fcps.org/bookclub
Here are some places you can purchase the book: Amazon (It's $9.99 on Kindle.) Barnes and Noble
