FCPS is very excited and optimistic about the Governor’s and State Superintendent's news regarding high school sports and activities, as interscholastic athletics and extracurricular activities are an extremely valued part of the high school experience for our students and play an important role in supporting their physical and mental health.
Based on guidance from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA), FCPS has formed a COVID-19 Return to Play Committee with one of our goals focusing on allowing our students the opportunity to return to some level of education-based conditioning and re-acclimatization activities this summer.
Although all FCPS athletic and extracurricular activities are postponed through July 31, 2020, FCPS is working to adjust this timeframe and will communicate the logistics to our schools and communities once we have a safe plan.
FCPS’s commitment to safety will continue to take priority as we prepare for our students' and student-athletes' safe return. All decisions, including the timeframe for return, will follow state and local reopening plans and will be based on guidance from the FCPS COVID-19 Return to Play Committee, MSDE, MPSSAA, and the Frederick County Health Department.
